Thank god for rogifan. Didn't see this until the day was over but they were still going at it after midnight with a great set of Prince's musical influences. Knew every song and artist, many of whose albums I bought when they came out. Great station - reminds me of our beloved WWOZ here in NOLA. Keepin the music alive!

They did such an outstanding job honoring Prince's music. Very in depth and respectful. They did a segment of his guitar heavy songs, a segment on his sexiest songs, a segment on his B sides. It was stellar. I was so sad when midnite came and it was over. They also did some live interviews outside PP - Donna, Andre, The Rev. I'm so excited Donna has decided to make MN her home! Now they need to keep it up and plsy more Prince on a regular basis. Outside of this wknd the rest of the yesr i rarely hear him on the radio sad Especially the gems they were rolling out! It never got boring. He has that much good music!

Yaasss. He is your patron saint and what a saint! No lack of material at all. Loved the requests too, no lack of listener knowledge and support. Fell in love with some songs all over again. Temptation blew my mind.

Kind of a shame that all but one of their top 10 is early to mid 80s music. I wonder what their methodology was.

^^^ Was wondering that too. They said listeners voted so not sure how that worked. Maybe some people ONLY voted for the usuals because it's all they know. I tried to make my own top 10 - it was impossible.

I can't imagine it was diehard fans voting then. That list sounds like something KDWB would have come up with. I've been listening to LotusFlow3r quite s bit lately and what a great record. Honestly right now Dreamer or Colonized Mind would probably be in my top 10.

If the diehards voted they were outnumbered. Nothing from Lotusflow3r. The 2 that made it from AOA were in the 80's. That's about it for the newer material.

Think radio is a pretty dead medium for younger people. I love it but am older and work from home. I like knowing other people are listening to the same thing. The radio here is great but most places are top 40 chosen by bots these days.

The full list is here:

http://www.thecurrent.org...ince-songs

Voting was open online to anyone who registered. You could vote for up to ten songs and write in five more. I found it very difficult to narrow my list to just ten entries. I love a lot of deep cuts, but most of my top favorites are still '80s hits. So five of my picks are in the top 10 (though I didn't vote for "Purple Rain," the number 1 song).

A few post-WB tracks made the lower half of the list:

40 - Black Sweat (I voted for this one)

50 - 1000 X's and O's

52 - Musicology

55 - Call My Name

70 - Breakfast Can Wait

73 - A Case of You

79 - 3121

81 - Breakdown

86 - Beautiful, Loved & Blessed

87 - Way Back Home

88 - Rock and Roll Is Alive (And It Lives in Minneapolis)

89 - Guitar

Interestingly, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" (his last real smash) didn't make the list. It's not one of my favorites, but I'd have expected it to land somewhere based on recognition alone.

Though obviously any one person would rearrange the list to reflect their own favorites, I think it's pretty solid overall. A number of these songs wouldn't make my own top 89, but there are only two that I *really* dislike (#24 and #88). I didn't get to listen to the whole show, but I'd have been happy to do so.

Agree about TMBGITW. I noticed that too. I like it - solid soul throwback, written and sung to perfection.

It was a great show and they went on with many good requests and then a special hour on the happenings for Prince. Good radio is hard to find. We have it but that's because New Orleanians are stone music freaks. Breathing doesn't happen without music here, which is real nice.

The org poll http://prince.org/msg/7/440853 had similar results with the top ten comprised of mostly singles and nothing past 1987. So diehards generally feel the same way.
