In the story The Mirror claims: "Prince had used a cane to walk since the 1990s."

OK maybe there were times in his career where the cane was more than just a prop but The Mirror is making it sound like he needed a cane to be able to walk which is absurd.

He was without it sometimes but the canes do have tips on the bottom like a real walking cane so we will never know if he needed them or if they were always a prop.

The cane was a pimp thing back then, he had it during many interviews. If Prince really needed a cane to walk, he would not be sportin it on TV appearances. Appearing anything less than a picture of perfection visually and health wise just wasn't ever in the cards.

I agree. He had the cane, but didn't walk with it like he needed it. How many times didn't he just spun it around while walking. Yeah, when someone does that, you really are in need of a cane. hmmm

I have no doubt Prince had serious hip pain. And his cane in later years looked really elegant and had that tip at the bottom to prevent it from sliding, so I think it was the real deal.
But he wasn't found with the cane, was he? Even though that awfull tv documentary showed an actor with a cane inside the elevator.

Have you seen the clip of him limping in the airport or riding on the old people scotter?

LOL! Yes...great song pull. Isn't it possible that his need for a cane varied. Could it be that, over time, it served for both:

1) addressing hip-related issues

and

2) completing pimp trifecta?

Yes exactly. The diamond crusted scepter he had was dope. Easily could have served dual purposes. cool

I think the first time I started seeing him with a cane was the Parade era, but that was his Charlie Chaplin connection

I hit 50 this year, so I might not be far from cane use. Good to know I can still be a pimpette! : )

Thanks, rogifan! And thanks very much for your post about the The Current. Guitar heavy Prince...woo hoo! Love it! Prince liked to move around a lot on stage. I'm glad he was able to move that way for so long (or maybe always) without a cane. It left both hands free for that guitar! : ) Loved to see him on piano, drums, etc. too, of course.

He's been into canes for a while. He gave Vanity a cane as a Christmas present before she left. She had it with her on stage when she gave him the award at 1985 AMA.

I like it all the way through the flow, in fact, back then I worked at an NBC news station when the album came out, and I pushed the ending of The Flow where the horns come in and the vocals are done to be played over football highlights... and they did it!

Yeah, but as far as I can remember that footage wasn't shot in the '90-s.
