I Wish U Heaven (remix) appreciation thread πŸπŸ’—

Just got my mind blown away by 'I Wish U Heaven (Part 1, 2 & 3 remix)'... again. I hadn't listened to this for many many years (the vinyl's been sleeping at home) and as I played it from an online source a couple of days ago... it all came back to me in full force bow

For me the trip really commences when Prince announces how 'excellent' this is... And excellent it is! I love part 3 as well (Take this beat, etc.). I think if I had to pick an ultimate Prince track and I wouldn't be allowed any others, for me this is the one. It seems to included most of what I love about Prince's sound. How about you?

prince+wish.jpg

Doubts of our conviction follow where we go
And when the world's compassion ceases, still I know
4 your every touch I thank U so much
4 your every kiss I...
I wish U love

I wish U heaven {x2}

If I see 11, U can say it's 7
Still I wish U heaven
I wish U love

I wish U heaven {x2}

La, la, la, la, la
Do, do, do, do, do
La, la, la, la, la
Do, do, do, do, do
La, la, la, la, la

I wish U heaven {x8}
(We wish U heaven)

Excellent

This is excellent
Cool (Cool)
This is so cool (This is so cool)
Tell me who in this house know about sweet heaven (We do!)
Fishtail! I said, 'Really?' (Really)
If U know about love, say - 'Yeah' (Yeah!) (I wish U heaven {x2})
If U wanna go 2 heaven, say – 'Oh yeah' (Oh yeah!)
If anybody in the house wanna sing
Here's a chance 2 do your thing
Everybody, everybody get ready, y'all – sing!

Heaven, yeah! (Heaven, yeah!) {x2}
Heaven, sugar baby! (Heaven, sugar baby!)
Heaven, yeah! (Heaven, yeah!)

Hold my hand, I'm strong with U
When U're quality band, I adore all of U
The way we love is what brought us 2gether
Dreams of above, the water's much wetter
When words of compassion ceases 2 exist
My band don't see me still get a kiss
The heavens above, the heavens above
Everybody sing 4 the heavens above

Heaven, yeah! (Heaven, yeah!)
Heaven, sugar baby! (Heaven, sugar baby!)
Heaven, oh yes! (Heaven, oh yes!)
Heaven, sugar baby! (Heaven, sugar baby!)
Check it out

(Yes Lord, I love it, I love it, yeah)

If we wanted 2, we could slam all comers, slam all comers
Sheila? (Yeah)
Have the choir hit a long note {x2}
(Heaven)
Yeah
Say hello 2 my little friend, the Blue Angel
(Oh my God, look at that guitar)
That's right

(La, la, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la, la (La, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la, la, la (La, la, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la (La, la, la, la, la)

On the 1 y'all
Heaven, yeah! (Heaven, yeah!)

I…
Take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine
I said take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine

Take my coffee, but don't U touch my cream
Make me holler, make me scream
Your sister ugly, that's the truth
She pees in the backyard, sleep on the roof
Take this beat, U know U need it
I give U a white dove, why'nt U feed it? (I wish U heaven {x2})
I gave U sweet love, U put it in the corner
Gave U candy, U say U don't want it
Take this beat, I don't mind (Lord)
I got plenty others and they so fine
Take this… take this beat

Teal-blue overcoat on my back
'67 T-Bird, heart attack
I got peace-sign sneakers, pleated slacks
Don't fuck with me, I'll slap yo' ass!

Take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine
Take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine
They so fine {x2}
They so fine, so fine
I don't mind
(Oh Lord)

Gil..Gilbert, get the keys
U gonna have 2 drive, I can't (Oh Lord)
Let's get outta of here

I hear you!

This is my favourite Prince track of all time for the very reason you cite - it encapsulates a sound, as well as a mood (it's so romantic)

Is there a more 'in love' lyric than 'if I say eleven, you can say it's seven....' simple and beautiful.

Yeah - Prince at his peak. This is where Prince the musician excels, taking you on a journey that in turn fascinates and makes your soul wiggle. The end sounds nothing like the start, part 3 one of his finest beats, scat-catting to the max.

.

(If you can listen to Part 3 on headphones whilst out walking and not want to swagger - you're a better man than me!)

Agree on all of the above (Except for boldened bit - I am a woman actually! sexy ). Such an irresistible tune...

Sums up everything I love about Prince. For me it's his last, end to end, truly amazing recording. I could listen to it for days

One of my favorite things he put out! Incredible and also quite a few bizarre twists and turns.

This sweet song turns into some neon nightclub church revival that bursts into a gloriously monstrous electric guitar rapture to finally summon some pimp demon scatting in some funk thunder.

I love it too. One of his best 12"s. Say hello to the Blue Angel! I ran into Gilbert recently and the first thing I said to him was Gilbert get the keys. lol

I think it's the definitive version of the song. It makes Positivity a much more climactic closer in the album sequence too.

Love love love. I Wish U Heaven is one of my all time favorite Prince songs and I love the trip he takes you on with the 12". Great stuff. I think I could use some of that today, in fact. Thank you for the idea. biggrin heart

I don't understand the love for this extended version, the best for me is the album version. But to me, the extended one is a little nonsense.

I agree.the remix is pretty cool but after the first half I kinda want to turn it off.I wish he had just extended the original version with the same music

Are you serious? Either way that is funny! (if true, how did he respond?)

Yes, serious. I went to see Sheila E in northern Minnesota last fall and he is Sheila's manager. He was hanging out after the show and we talked for a bit. He got a good laugh at me saying that.

Heck a groove!

And what a nice surprise when he revisited it fairly recently with none other than Chuck D

Yeah fo show. I had this playing today while i was in the shower and it's one of my favorites from that era.

It slayed on the Lovesexy Tour too and I always felt like it was Prince's favorite part of the show and he was just waiting to get to it. Maybe I was projecting, but I saw about 18 Lovesexy shows and always was a highlight.

Well put. When I saw this live during Lovesexy, Prince did an extended version of this song with Sheila leading the choir...brilliant and beautiful.

I was actually trying to sing this in the shower earlier but it was a bit tricky with all the different voices razz

Any confirmation that it is Eric who plays the saxophone throughout all of this track?

It was kind of the "Baby I'm A Star" of the Lovesexy tour. Some of the shows it morphed into God Is Alive. At some of the aftershows he did the Take This Beat portion. The show I saw he did I Wish U Heaven/I'll Take You There/Take My Hand Precious Lord with Mavis Staples guesting. Later in the tour Sheila took over vocals.
