From the same people that gave us Moonbeam Levels? I wouldn't jump up and down just yet.

I had the great pleasure of meeting and speaking with Susan Rogers about this release fairly recently and based on what she said about the care they are putting into finding the right versions in the vaults, I think its ok to get excited haha. The fact that she seemed pleased at the care WB is taking for this release is enough for me to feel excited for it, and to have full studio mastered versions of my favorite Prince outtakes makes this great for me.

When she told me they were scouring the vaults making sure the specific version of Wonderful Ass coming out is the one that Prince would have wanted out - that sealed the deal for me.

If that is the case, then that's great news! I'm still dissapointed with the amount of missed opportunities on this set through. Thus, I wont be buying it.

Another silly question (I don't know is the information is on the db): The Dance Electric have Prince or Andre at the vocals?

Not a silly question, but I do think it would be silly to include Andre on vocals given it's a prince album. On the Variety post it states 'bandmate Andre' which is a bit concerning... it better be P on vocals

Silly question. Wondering what everything thinks the price point would be for a set like this?

I do agree that the disk 2 could have a little more unique variety to it, I probably will be listening to disk 3 way way more haha. But overall I am happy that fully mastered versions of my all time favorite Prince songs are finally going to be out there smile

eek eek eek eek eek eek

Hyped for this and.. at last!!!!. Some thoughts / speculation

1) Gutted there is no Traffic Jam but I assume there was no room left on the disc and instrumentals have less appeal maybe.

2) We Can Fuck??? After all the speculation Electric Intercourse would be censored this is a shocker. I assume this is WB having free reign after his death or maybe the tracklist is all Prince picks (Paisley employees have said PR reissue was on his desk when he died). If its a crazy extended jam based on Erotic City I'll be happy.

3) If this is the reissue format for all his claasic albums I'll be happy (SOTT will no doubt need to be expanded more though). If recent rumours are true WB already had rights for 80s vault material which would make sense after the 2014 reissue deal and explain why WB let Universal win the vault bid.

4) Syracuse and First Avenue are logical and safe guesses for the DVD's just hope they are of significantly better quality than we have seen before.

5) Guessing WB were no doubt planning to announce this tomorrow hence them being registered yesterday to minimise leakage??

Anyway at least some good news this week of all weeks

I am buying this no matter what.

The Orig album (CD1) = remaster

this alone is worth getting.

Eye No we already own most of the rest - still I am supporting this all the way through.

I can't wait to hold it in my hands.

Please.. let the 2 or is it 3 DVDs be in the final Purple Package... excited

Holy shit, I mean i'm disappointed there isn't more, there's definitely a very strong case for at least another CD of unreleased outtakes we've been reeling off in this thread, nevermind alternate versions of songs, but not buying it? Hell i'll be buying it!

Unless the DVD content is worth the price of the 5 disc set, no I wont be.

Where's those 2 albums of unreleased material?

Unless any other tracks have completely different ISRC codes that don't sequentially relate to these ones, or haven't been registered yet, then this is it.

I did search the database for things like Wednesday, 17 Days Extended, and various other PR-era titles that we know of...... nothing came up.

Exactly. And that furthers my point - No 17 Days extended, no Wednesday, no Traffic Jam.

Given all the surroundung circumstances I think this is a very good release - not perfect but decent enough for a first attempt.

I am assuming that many contents in the vault are not in great condition hence giving WB benefit of the doubt regarding what they have access to in the last few months.

There will be many more releases of this great album so as I said - a good first attempt.

I'm even more excited about the DVD releases, potential to see some great quality here for the first time. First Ave Aug 83 would be incredible!

I just have a hard time believing Erotic City, Wonderful Ass, and We Can Fuck were on his track list. Now, Theocratic City, Wonderful Butt, and We Can Duck (7 Minutes Mo' Quack), I might believe.

it's 100% exactly that what i wrote in the other tread that it would be.
Not surprised and not very excited either. They keep making mistakes all the time...

edit: i take that back, i said that on disc 2 would be the full version of the songs. It's not even that. This is beyond silly.

Frankly I'd pay $50 cold hard cash JUST for a re-mastered 9 track PURPLE RAIN.

Prince's 80's albums are so in need of a fresh sonic shine.

I wouldn't give a dime for any remastered version of any album of any artist.
How it came out is how it's supposed to sound.
get yourself the original vinyl album (no fancy 180 gr rubbish) and a high-end turntable and audio installation, and there's no need for any remastered PR album!

I think if the set included the b-sides, edits, and extended versions, in addition to two discs of unreleased material, nobody would have a problem with it.

Remasters in a lot of cases have the potential to come closer to the master tape than what you get from crappy CD editions from the 80's with loudy tape transfers or from high-gen tapes or even vinyl where you have to make mastering choices that will fit the vinyl format and won't screw with anything. If a remastering is done horrible like conforming to a loudness wars trend, it will be shitty. But when done right I think its a fantastic thing

I don't think its lying, more third hand news getting bungled in a press release before the project is really finalised. Realistically 2 vault discs was stretching it as that would leave no space for b sides / extended. People on here need to remember it has to appeal to the hardcore and more casual fans who may have never heard 17 days. Plenty of comments already show how difficult it would be to please the hardcore anyway.

It's the version that has Prince giving an speech about Hallways, Corridors, Hate, in the background. Trust me, it's the BEST version of Computer Blue!
