.

Thanks for this, but don't forget these are only the songs we know of. There must be a lot more from the same period and as others have already pointed out, Warners surely doesn't want to put everything out right now. They know there's enough material in there to be exploited for decades – and at this stage there could be technical issues with some of the stuff too.
.

Paisley's vault is not even catalogued yet, let alone starting the monumental task of digitising all the tapes and making decisions whether an already existing mix is good enough (either technically or artistically) for release or they'll have to go back to the multitracks and mix it again. They might want to do that with 'Wednesday', for example. They might simply hold it back for a later, far more comprehensive set. We don't know why they left it off the deluxe reissue.

I'm actually happy the full length original versions of the purple rain album are NOT included, as it allows for a future release where we can appreciate and digest the material while not taking away from the original 'edits' album (rightly released first). Also the bonus disk can feature the associates material including Wednesday, modernaire, plus the time and A6 material.

U actually believe that this makes reasonable sense?

The bad

- Why announce 2 CD's then give only one? This is WB doing exactly what fans blamed Prince for doing all these years: misleading info and promises that lead nowhere... Bad business!

.

So far this still is not official. Also, if the second concert movie is the August 1983 show, then that would be the second disc of unreleased music.

.

- Technically, the original version of 4 The Time In Your Eyes was released before ATWIAD, therefore during the PR era, so it should have been included here. My guess is WB felt it belongs more on a potential ATWIAD remaster, though.

.

Pointless speculation. Also: the studio version might not be "licensable", because it might belong to USA 4 Africa (or whatever the org is called).

.

.

- Audio versions of the 4 live music videos (Baby, TMWU + 2 edits of IWD4U), as well as the AMA PR and the Grammy Baby I'm A Star TV performances should have been included. Hopefully WB will have the sense to include all of those in video format on one of the 2 DVD's alongside the other PR promo videos.

.

.

Don't get your hopes up. Also: obtaining the rights to these performances might be hard/costly. This is Warners' first trip to Prince re-issue land and considering the insecurity surrounding the music rights of the catalog they likely have looked for something that could have a positive ROI.

.

Let's not forget: Prince never even bothered with this, even when it was part of a deal he closed with Warners.

This begs the question, will there be a vinyl release of the unreleased tracks? Normally for these deluxe two-or-more disc deals they only release the first disc. I'd be surprised if they release more than just Purple Rain remastered on vinyl...I'll probably end up buying both the boxset and the vinyl. razz

A recent example of this is the remastered version of Boys For Pele by Tori Amos. The CD contained a whole bunch of additional tracks that the vinyl didn't have. The download card that came with the vinyl also only included the album tracks.

.

The 20th anniversary of Garbage's debut was a mere 2CDs, but the download was much larger: http://www.superdeluxeedi...y-reissue/ . And Macca's Flowers In The Dirt deluxe is an insult to his fans.

That sold it to me on the spot.
Finally, Bernie tweaking the knobs again! I coud be wrong, but I don't think he's the type to sell his ass to the Loudness Wars. But WB executive have their words, so who knows. I hope everyone in the building has come to the conclusion that radio doesn't exist anymore. Or at least that this is not millenials radio material.

Susan Rogers liking it is also good news.

You can't remaster tracks that haven't been mastered a first time!!!

Cutting WB some slack (shock!) we have no idea what quality or state the vault tracks are in. With time against them who knows what tracks were in good enough condition to master and get to release status...perhaps they wanted other tracks but needed more time to restore.
