Very hard to watch but interesting to see just how much his childhood played such an impact on his life. He had tried so hard to protect himself in his adult life, just wish that something could have been done much sooner to help him. sad

It hurts to see how his closest are grieving. Pepe Willie and Alan Leeds seemed very much in grief.

Watching this really hits home at what a strong person he really was, to have all that sadness at a young age and keeping it bottled up for so long. Using music as an only outlet and to achieve so much....what are the odds of that happening??? Just seems like a life full achievements and no personal happiness, doco comes across that way, am sure though he felt his life was a gift and he was thankful for all he had.

Slamming a little boys hands on the piano damn how cruel. It justgoes to show no matter how rich and famous you become you dont forget your youth and some of the sadness that went with it.Remember michael jordans hall of fame speech speaking about not making his hs bball team? Its almost like prince said i will show them all.And boy did he ever.

I was just channel surfing and stumbled onto the movie Prince When Doves Cry on Reelz cable channel here in the US.

It was right at the part where Mayte has Baby Amiir.

The narrator called the baby "Boy Gregory" and shows the actor playing P, too tall and his voice is deep but weird.

I had to turn it off, it made me nauseous.

They've got a few more supposed P movies on after that one tonight.

Ugh

sad

[Edited 4/16/17 21:42pm]

aside from a few errors that shouldn't have happened, it's watchable. I especially like seeing Mica Paris speak about Prince. The actors, though...I understand the need to "dramatize" the info, but anyone trying to do Prince just comes off as completely goofy.

he wasn't that bad but he was goofy and funny as hell, he had me cracking up, it was like he was overdoing prince but he didn't do bad with the dancing, his singing? ahhhhh.

This guy looks a LOT like Prince.

He looks more like Prince than ANY MJ impersonator looks like him.

I was just impressed they got someone that looks so much like him.

The best Elvis I ever saw was Kirk Russell. Think I'll watch that movie again...

there also seemed to be vestiges of resentment at other times i've heard those guys speak, for example, I didn't see the necessity of Alan Leeds saying that PP was like Jonestown. Pepe has said "prince would use you til he used you up" after his death. Maybe not the best guy to speak to about Prince/post death. You know, a guy he left behind.

I saw it today. Rather depressing.

The only real bbad thing about it is the actor playing Prince. Hearing him try to sing is painful.

No i mean really really bad.

Singing?
No

But he did look a lot like older Prince and luckily for us they showed very little of him and was mostly a documentary. Not a terrible movie: but not a great movie. Informative in the way past associates paint him as a very lonely man. That was really sad to hear.

I agree wholeheartedly. Alan Leeds and Pepe probably haven't had significant contact with Prince in decades. And for that matter the writer Neal Karlen. A lot of psychoanalyzing from people who at one point or another had fallings out with Prince from pettiness of slinging dirt at Prince to hype up a younger musician in Prince's mold to resorting to gimmicks to distance himself from being closely associated with Prince in the journalism world. A lof of good performances.

Neal Karlen was Prince's phone friend for years and is writing a book. He knows a lot.

As for the rest of the show: to many factual errors.

Flying dragon wing hell, this show is such a DOWNER! It is not completely terrible, there is some half decent insight here and there, but you can tell the whole thing was driven by a thesis that was going to going to be proved BY GOD no matter what it took. Prince had family issues, was lonely, never overcame childhood trauma, and died a broken lonely man. Any or all of these may have some truth but I don't believe that literally EVERYTHING that Prince ever did was driven by lack of his acceptance from his Dad while growing up. Dude had some fun too, had some great moments that are completely buried in the misery of this. The guy who plays Prince gets the look down in a lot of Prince's eras but the accent is terrible and the singing is so far beyond terrible that terrible thinks its terrible. Still that shot at the end of Prince on the bike...that was sad.

All good things they say never last...

most of us know that. I wasn't there and I don't know but what I do know is that, as a musician, most of the people you meet are going to be dead weight. The tough decision of cutting people off and/or being an asshole is a necessity. I'm not one to think prince is a bad guy for kicking some people to the curb. I'm sure if they were on top of their thing they'd have been there longer.

I don't think anyone was disrespectful. I'm sure the interviews were long but it seems it was edited to create a narrative. The angle the producers of the movie seemed to have settled on was to make him out to be a lonely man. That was the overall theme of the movie.

it gave some interesting insight into his childhood and perhaps the driving force behind his art and work ethic, and i appreciated that they did include the words of some who knew him and worked with him along the way, tho with so much focus on his family life, they didn't interview anyone connected to the family, and they totally skipped the years he lived with the Andersons except to say Prince perfected his craft nonstop in a basement. actually a lot was missed, skipped, misinterpreted, and just factually wrong. just goes to show that the fans are really the ones who know him best. <3

That's true. Sometimes you gotta protect yourself by not giving yourself to everyone. I can see that. Most people that has had alot of friends, knows that not everyone are people you'll stay with all the time. Some people, even good people, you'll lose after a while, or they'll lose you, or they will lose eachother.

Pepe Willy seems like a nice enough guy and he married P's cousin so he was family...and yes there were the 94 East recordings early on, but frankly Pepe Willy could'nt have taken P where he was trying to go and if P had stayed with him P'd have never became who he became.

I think that while Pepe Willy cared/cares for P there's still a bit of resentment as if P should've taken him with him, but like someone else mentioned sometimes ya gotta cut "dead weight". Don't believe it? Listen to 94 East then listen to P's versions of the same recordings. P brought life to the monotony of those songs when he did them.

The proof of that is the folks who P cut away from...How many of them kept going and remained relevant without/after they were gone?

Not many. Sad, but true.

sad

Don't bother. Believe only what associates say in it, not what is portrayed.
.
Dr K's son DID NOT find P in the elevator.
There is so much wrong in that hour I'm surprised none of you caught on.

i honestly didn't pay attention to the narration much, they don't know as much as me, not everyone in the world is a prince fanatic. the people who did that show are just doing a job.
