New Book: Dig If U Will the Picture

Anyone reading it? Suprised not to see any active threads. I appreciate that it treats his later work with a fair eye, but it's really not very well written and jumps all over the place. He also indulges in some really hilarious over-interpretation of lyrics. Would also be curious to hear what the fact experts here think of it. Still, I'm tearing through it, so it can't be all bad. razz

Considering there are plenty of books out now (and coming soon) that aren't just "one guy's opinion about Prince's music", I can't say I'm interested in this one.

This one could be an interesting read, though. Unless I've read the article he wrote describing the book incorectly (which I may have), I got the impression that this is the story of the impact on the author's life, as much as it is a biographical tale. I'm looking forward to this from that point of view.

It's not bad actually. It looks at various elements of Prince across the years, so each element is addressed across Prince's lifetime. The book is therefore not chronological but topic related. Topics include: work, proteges, internet, treatment of fans, live appearances, faith etc. The analyis is educated. There is one glaring error 'Boy Gregory' but generally well researched. Lot's of opinion and textual and musical analysis which of course can be subjective, but not badly done for all that.

I quite enjoyed the Alan Light, "Let's Go Crazy" because it told me as much about the author as it did the subject. Is this a similar sort of book? The article he wrote in the New Yorker seemed to hint that it was that sort of text.
