Extended 'Live' Version of Revelation

Been discussed before, I'm sure, but my God, what a masterpiece. Starts with the playback of the released edit then the live performance takes over. On the lyrics- having just read Mayte's book in which she mentions her and Prince's strong connection to Egypt and their possible past-life union there, I can't help but wonder if the song is about her. In truth, I felt this the first time I heard it. Thoughts?

everything about this songs feels like a Rainbow Children outtake. It is a similar mix of JW(allegedly gnostic) and Egyptology

The credited players indicate it's much more recent than that.

Yeah I know, I'm just saying it feels like something from Rainbow Children.

But as we know, a song could easily have been made during a period and then redone in a later time.

I'm not remembering this one off the top of my head. Is this a bootleg track? A Tidal release? Something just leaked?

Please somebody, jog my foggy memory. wink

audience recording of the full (11min44sec) version with sax solo played over the PA at a 3rdeyegirl show, i believe...somebody'll know the show...

frickin' love this song. great lyrics, excellent vocals and of course 6 string bliss. i hope this version eventually gets and official release.

Far as I can tell it's not an extended version. It sounds like the stidio version and a live verison spliced together. The audio qualities of both are distinctive.

Thanks peedub!

Now I know why this sounded familiar to me but I couldn't place it... I don't usually keep listening to PA recordings beyond the initial leak. If it had been studio or soundboard I would have played it more and remembered it.

Hope we get a quality release or leak eventually!

listening now (for only maybe the third time in a long while), i think you're right...what a way to start (?) a show. anybody know what show this was? as i recall, 'revelation' had yet to be released...

On a recent Dr. Funkenstein podcast, he interviewed Marcus Anderson. IIRC, they may have discussed this version and mentioned it was a studio/live mix.

Anybody know if this is what he was talking about?

It was from the Record Store Weekend Jam

.
The quality wasn't great from the show but I come across a cleaner version someone made on Mixcloud which is quite decent

I think this was played on Record Store Day at a show he did at PP which explains the studio version segueing into the live performance methinks

you're not missing TOO much. studio version plays over the PA while the band takes the stage and segues into an extended instrumental jam of the song. mostly prince playing rhythm with some donna noodling, some sax solo and a bit of prince guitar solo...the studio version on it's own is good enough.

That show was great. I love Wow and that was the only time I had ever seen him do it live, although I know it was played live elsewhere. Judith Hill did her own set between Prince's 2 sets. The DJ was playing after Judith played and Revelation came on, at the time still unreleased, and Prince got on stage by himself and started playing guiter. The whole band eventually joined in.
