Well done Madhouseman!!

This is a great idea for a book! it needed to be done the correct way and it sounds like you acheived it.

That is a huge undertaking.

I would love to see a book on the next year aswell as I believe that is probably even more mind blowing!!

The follow up volume will be 1985/86 which were incredible years in his career. ATWIAD/Parade released. UTCM, the remainder of the PR Tour, the Parade Tour. The Family, Madhouse, The Flesh, Mazarati, The break up of The Revolution, the recording of most of SOTT and the end of one of his most significant intimate relationships and how all of that affected his music.

But for now, I'm focused on getting this one out there. If it does well, then there will be additional volumes. I'm very hopeful and excited about it. Thanks!

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

My thoughts exactly. I'd love volumes for the SOTT and Gold eras.

Wow that's great. Good on you for all that effort. Looks to be a great read. I will certainly buy it. Also, a book on the 90s would indeed by excellent biggrin

I'm not a big 90's fan, but I do find that this period needs illumination. Thant's why I am glad that Mayte was there to tell us something about this era. It's been a lost era for many reasons. I think there is a lot more unknowns here as he had the luxury to keep it far more private.

Are you considering doing years prior to '83-'84?

I would enjoy doing one about Dirty Mind - 1999 which was a fantastic period for him as an artist, but for now, the next volume is 1985/86, and the one after that would likely be 87/88-ish.

A lot happens in 2 years! In the first book there are over 220 sessions, many rehearsals and soundchecks, the birth of The Revolution, The breakup of Vanity/Prince, The breakup of The Time, The formation of The Family, The creation of Apollonia 6, filming, editing and releasing a movie, 2 tours, 2 albums recorded for Prince (PR & ATWIAD), full albums for Apollonia 6, The Time, The Family, Sheila E, songs for Jill Jones, Dez Dickerson, Sheena Easton, Stevie Nicks and The Bangles, outtakes from Vanity 6 and many tracks (like Roadhouse Garden etc.) that still sit in the vault.

All of this is told through what he was recording in the studio and the music he created during this period.

Thank you for the reply and information. A huge thank you for the intense and thorough work you have done on the book. I am looking forward to it. I am also excited about the following years you mentioned 85/86 and 87/88. I also believe from The Vault book that the years prior to 83/84 also saw a huge output by Prince and works that he would later pull from the Vault and release.

Again thank you very much for your dedication and detail to the most prolific artist.

Oh no! I would have preferred this on ebook but already preordered the hard cover. I don't see it in ebook format from Amazon.

It would nice to have some of these details on future remasters to read as we listen. Have you been approached by WB on adding your work to liner notes on upcoming releases?

No. Hopefully once they see this book, they'll be interested in session/liner notes for future releases. I would also hope to work with them in more detail for future books. I had cooperation from the vault at WB, but even more would help.

That's great to hear! I have books about Jimi Hendrix's recording sessions and rehearsals and I always wanted to have a book that chronicled Prince's music in the same way. My gratitude for doing this for the hardcore fans.

I enjoyed the Hendrix book, but I wish they'd have started each date with the songs that were done that day. I tried to follow the format of The Beatles Studio Sessions. There are a lot of great books about studio sessions, but The Beatles book is the bible/template for all of us.

Thank you for the props and I look forward to this getting out there.

As I was reading down this thread your book was sounding better and better to me, then I came to your comments about The Beatles Studio Sessions book and that sealed the deal for me!

I very much look forward now to reading your book on Prince's sessions!

Any update on epub availability? Also... when is the followup (85-86) scheduled to come out?

.

These are THE Prince books that are scheduled to come out that I'm most excited about!

.

Other books I wish would come out is a picture book of *all* Prince records (including sleeves, labels, odd versions (such as the Controversy text on the LP cover in White and Blue) and of course, the companion books to the studio sessions for gearsluts.. all instruments, effects, recording equipment and most common settings. (what's the percentage of pitch/speed increase for the Camille voice, for instance?)

.

Wish there was enough money available to have a team of people dive into creating that while we still can..

Even if you don't get to an entire book about Dirty Mind, I'd love to hear anything you can share about When You Were Mine.

Really looking forward to '83-'84. This is exactly the kind of Prince book I'm interested in reading. Thank you for the work.
