Female vocal on Lovesexy song?

Please be gentle If this has been posted b4 ( I looked but couldn't find a thread about it, but I wouldn't believe it has never been talked about).... does anyone know for sure who the female vocal is in the 'Lovesexy' song? Is it Cat, Ingrid Chavez, Sheila? Princevault just says " unidentified"... just curious as I love this song and the whole album!

For me, I always assumed it was Cat. It doesn't sound like Sheila. What tripped me out most is how, if it is Cat, it segues from her voice to his right around "Oh pretty little whip...".

Huh! I thought that bit was Prince in his sped up Camille voice with Sheila, oh well. Prince was camilling out all over that album and he was having a lot of fun doing those songs. so it could be him messing around with voice machines.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Well, I figure it's because she's just part of the band, rather than a guest vocalist.

I always thought, whether it is female or male, it sounds like a voice that is slowed down, in contrast to the transition, which is obviously Prince's voice sped up.

Tonight we make love with only words
Girls first, girls first

(this is Cat starting out in her regular voice and going in and out in a deep/slowed down 2 Camille/sped up voice)
OK so like first I'll start by telling U how
Intelligent a curve your behind has
And then I can tell U that I can just smell U
And race cars burn rubber in my pants
But I really dig trippin' on the thought of
Being caught by someone with your beauty, style and grace
Baby I don't care I would rip out my hair
4 just 2 nights with your face
I don't want to make love 2 U
I just want 2 look at U
I just want 2 listen 2 U

Oh, pretty little whip, U got me drippin'
Drippin' all over the floor, the floor
If I come back as a woman, I want a body like yours
A body like yours

Living rooms
I think... I think U would
I think U wanna play house
Yeah, I think U wanna play house

It definitely sounds like there is at least one additional voice in there, mingled with Prince's various speeds of voice (including Camille's). However when he announces 'Tonight, we make love with only words, girls first, girls first') because he is addressing to more than one 'girl' to me it sounds like it could be both Cat and Sheila's voices, perhaps merged into one... If that's technically possible. kitty

Girls is not in a plural meaning

It would have been cool to have some Sheila E -Prince (ie Erotic City/ A Love Bizzare) interplay on this one. I would expect it on the Black album more but not there either.

It appears to be in the plural form though, maybe I am missing something... Agree on the other part of your post yes

I mean it is clear he is having a 'conversation' with 1 female, which they go on to to have verbal sex

I think 'Girls First Girls first' just works better than 'girl first girl first' or 'you go first, you go first'

I understand what you mean now. It still doesn't solve the mystery of the 'unidentified woman vocals' though.

Yeah it is Cat. Just listen to Sheila E's vocals on her albums. And you can see how distinct her voice is. Check out songs that feature Boni Boyer, she has more power behind her voice, even when singing softer. Cat has a higher range and listening to her talk or sing, you can tell it is Cat. Listen to her talking/singing/rapping on Alphabet St / Cindy C

Like if u listen to Cindy C, Sheila Es voice stands out from Cats (Cat is doing the little interplay with Prince as Cindy C on this one)

The female conversant--I'd say is Cat. It sounds pretty similar to the sound of her voice in other Prince recordings for a bit, but studio processing makes that hard to say with absolute certainty. That album must have had tons of tricky sound engineering applied to it with all of its effects and sound engineering. I greatly enjoy it, and have heard snippets of samples from that particular album used by other artists more times than any others of his.

You've convinced me razz To tell you the truth I always thought it was Cat myself, it's just that recent listen I had of that bit when Prince's voice gradually takes over and goes all over the place... it really blurred the lines and more possibilities suddenly came to mind.
