Maybe you need to bleed

Some people are uspset about Extra Loveable rape part but somehow nobody mentions ending lines of the Bambi where he sings Bambi i know what you need

,maybe you need to bleed.

and he was singing that line on every live version of Bambi

except the versions that were cut with oneverse only.

One is rape, the other is crudely suggesting that he take her virginity. You don't see the difference?

One is consent. The other isn't.

Don't overthink it. This is 19 or 20 year old Prince. He's literally making a reference to the fact that a lesbian hasn't had her hymen punctured yet, and of course sex with a man is better, and he wants to be the one. It's actually sort of a misogynistic, sexist, and homophobic. Not raising rainbow flags or anything - just saying it's juvenile. But it's not about beating someone.

Exactly - Prince quit swearing, but he never stopped being dirty.

I don't see the song as sexist or homophobic.I don't hear him saying being gay or a lesbian is wrong in the song.To me it's a classic case of seeing a fine ass chick you wanna get up in and finding out she's into girls and trying your best to covince her to let you give it a try, maybe I can change your mind. It's the ultimate player move if you can get a chick like that and it has nothing to do with being homophobic or sexist. lol

Hey, and he was still into the whole taking virginity thing later--"Don't look now, there's a river of blood. You must have been a virgin--what am I guilty of?" from I Wanna Melt With U. He gets over any idea of guilt instantaneously, though.

Songs like Melt with u make me realize why Prince felt guilt over his past. i am not saying the song is autobiographical but it is trashy and creepy lyrically.

Oh, it definitely is. And considering the album is (according to its own story) about a relationship with the "crown prince of Cairo" who is "16 years old"... well. There's enough similarity to what we've always known about when Mayte showed up in the Prince circle, and--let's just say I always feel a little eww when Prince starts the age and innocent talk... even when he's doing the thing later on when he's saying young girls are writing checks their bodies can't cash and that he'll take a raincheck until next summer. Nah, man--I get that you don't want someone who is actually your age, but can you at least start looking a few years later?

Love Symbol is an amazing album but I gotta admit, the storyline is a little creepy/disturbing at times.

He did not have sex with Mayte at 16. She said he didn't . He said he didn't. No one said they did. I hope you are not implying that he is a statutory rapist. Him fantasizing about 16 years olds is wrong but I don't think he acted upon it. In the rock n roll, I imagine there are a lot of underaged girls who try to pass themselves off as older girls. Imagine how many15-16 year old groupies got with the members of Led Zeppelin back in the day. Prince might have thought that one day he would make that mistake. I wonder if he got age confirmations from a lot of girls who were young and attractive to make sure he wasn't taking advantage or breaking the law.

Check this article out...David Bowie and Jimmy Page both slept with the same 14 year old groupie back in the day...

I don't know if this is true or not,but it has been reported that Susan Moonsie of Vanity 6 was only 16 when they recorded the V6 album.

Do all people have sex when they record an album?

I edited my last response to include an article I found about 11 rock stars who allegedly had sex with underaged girls. David Bowie and Jimmy Page both had sex with the same 14 year old groupie. Rock music caters to teenagers. Teenagers flood into that circle dressed in various ways..

Nope, I'm not implying he had sex with her at 16. I'm implying that he found girls who were underage and waited until they were of age (indications are that pretty much the same thing happened with Anna Fantastic--and if it happened twic that we know of, then it probably happened more). He clearly knew how old those two girls were--that's why he waited. And yes, lots of rock stars had (and I'm sure still have) sex with underage girls--that doesn't make a man in his fifties still singing about the temptation of someone too young any less creepy. I don't think he broke the law--he just did things (in this area) that would get most middle-aged guys some serious weirdo attention.

And it should.

Do you really think he looked for 16 year old girls? He wouldn't have to look very far? I imagine a lot of parties had girls walking around who looked 19 and were actually 16. Isn't that kind of his point? Its a bit creepy using the word "Lolita" in that one song because in the book the girl is 13...OMG..Prince made a literary reference. ..off subject, anyway...

Look, I'm not heavily invested in this--no one involved in these relationships a problem with the way they played out (that I know of) and there don't seem to be any broken laws. But I know (and you do too) that a man in his 30s, or his 40s or his 50s who meets a girl of 16 WHO HE KNOWS IS 16, keeps in touch with her (or even has her move to his city), grooms her during those intervening years, and then begins a relationship with her as soon as she turns 18 is swimming in some dangerous waters--and socially suspect waters. Whether the girl is interested or not (while under 18), whether the relationship isn't consummated until after she reaches 18--it's messed up, and certainly on the edge of what's acceptable if not beyond it. Now, if it happens once... maybe that's an accident or a fluke. He just met someone who was young, he "knew she was the one" and waited for her. Sure, you wouldn't give any other man the benefit of the doubt, but let's do it for Prince. But it wasn't once... it happened at least twice (that we know of)--and he writes about it repeatedly, even about the fact that it's "forbidden or questionable" (it's a potential scandal on the Symbol album that he won't even address when he's asked about it--even though he explicitly states on The Morning Papers that he "had to wait" and he doesn't quite know why age is "more than a number when it comes to love.") It's not an accident, it's not a fluke--it's a developed thread that runs through his life and his work, not just while he was in a relationship with Mayte but years later, when he keeps going back to it as a subject.

Was he specifically looking for 16 year old girls? I don't know... but for whatever reason the age wasn't (as it would be for most men) a dealbreaker--it just meant that the deal took a little longer. He didn't think they were 19 and make a mistake. He knew they were 16 and made a choice about having a relationship, even if it had limitations for a few years. If that doesn't seem off-kilter to you... that's fine. It does to me.

Of course this has been going on long before Prince came along. And as much as society would demonize regular Joes (or Jills) for this activity, most celebs get a pass.

EddieC makes a very sobering point and I appreciate the injection of reality into the subject. This is "the talk" that parents should be having with their children.

To your son: No sex without condoms. No sex without consent (otherwise it is a crime). No sex with cameras or recording equipment invovled. No sex with underage partners (it is a crime). I don't care if you are in another country and age of consent does not exist....you are an Amercian and you abide by OUR laws. Stay sober!!!

To your daughter: Stay sober!!!! Stay in school!!! Refer to EddieC for the rest!
