Prince shipped in his own water... for the bathtub?

From the latest edition of "Popbitch" a gossip-e-rag:

Even from beyond the grave,
Prince continues to delight
us with tales of his weird
behaviour.

Apparently when he was staying
at the Four Seasons, alongside
all the usual rock star stuff
(like booking out whole floors
for band members and security)
Prince's people also made one
very unique request.

They insisted that Prince be
allowed to bring in his own
bathwater.

.
When? Which Four Seasons?
Got a link?
.
I've read his tour riders. They were straightforward with no outlandish requests.
.
He basically wanted clean stage floors and lots of clean towels.

Are you sure it wasn't bathing in the blood of virgins? razz lol (reference to a bad horror flick--just joking, of course).

I don't think they display past issues on their site, but just look up popbitch. It's an email subscription. I've gotten it since 2001 or so I think. I don't really look at it much anymore, but this caught my eye.

A friend worked at a local furniture store back in 82-83 and swears Prince and Vanity came in looking at mattresses for the hotel in which they were staying. Evidently, Prince would not sleep on a hotel mattress, having been previously used. I have no reason to doubt my friend, but it does sound pretty eccentric. Has anyone heard similar stories?

That's right up there with Patti LaBelle travelling with her own pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. Actually, Prince bringing his own mattress makes more sense, now that I think about it... lol

.
Nothing wrong with that.
I won't even sit on a hotel bedspread but pull it down and sit on the sheets, which are always clean (I check) in the places we stay at.
.
One thing said at the Mike Tyson rape trial was enough to tell me to avoid hotel bedspreads.

The friend says that Prince bought a new mattress for use at each hotel. That is what is so hard for me to believe.

Prince actually said in the Musician interview that he was "scared" of hotel bathtubs. I'm unsure of the actual date of the interview, but it seems to be around the time of the release of Dirty Mind, which was October 1980.

MUSICIAN: So what will be the first thing you do when you get back to Minneapolis?

PRINCE: Probably take a long bath. I haven ’t had one in a long time. I’m scared of hotel bathtubs.

He always brought his own things, from paintings to pianos to furniture. Carpets and lights.

In his Paris apartment he removed all the furniture that was there and had the glass door replaced with massive wood.

It comes out of a tap. How the hell would they warm his own water up? I'd presume he bathed every day. How would that even be possible or practical?

-Bottled water at room temperature. Water would not be cold or hot. It is obvious he was a neat freak and a germ a phobe but it does not appear to have been off the rails.

My friend was a concierge at a Holiday Inn here in Fresno, CA. Back in 1997 when Prince performed here he stayed at her hotel. She ended up running into him and his body guard in the elevator. She asked him if all was fine and if he needed anything. He said he was good but if she could get someone to put foil on his windows because he liked it dark so he could sleep. Not to outlandish, I suppose.

On one of his concert riders he wanted his plates and utensils Saran Wrapped. The chefs at Paisley Park said he was cool to work for but was adamant that they keep the kitchen clean and walked behind her to make sure the glasses had no spots. He also followed behind the one of the guys who cleaned up at Paisley Park. There are plenty more going back to Andre Cymone talking about his room at the Anderson home being immaculate. I do not think he was mental about it just think he lined order and may have been worried about being ill.

u know ... all of that is heersay and even it was true it just proves he was into controlling and liked everything perfect around him ... which isn't breaking news and nothing unusual. but there is no need and no evidence to impute another mental illness to him.

I hate bathtubs. You soak in your own dirt and then have to shower to get it all off LOL

.

But it really sounds like he was joking. A good joke means they'll remember that and not some other stuff.

It's deflection.

Room temperature water (70-75 degrees) would feel cold to the human body (98.6 degrees internal temperature).

.

This really sounds like fan fiction.

But then again, Owen Husney talks about P's first apartment with "a kitchen full of garbage".

It's true about the "unopened" food in the tour rider.

.

But that means he'd know that no one else had been poking around in it. It was also interesting to read that his food was identical to much served to the rest of the crew, obvbiously so that no one could single his out. The only real difference was meats for the crew. But all packages had to be unopened, even the boxes of tea...and everyone was served the same two kinds.
