I can say, I never appreciated ADORE until after I read along with the lyrics. Then everytime I heard that song afterwards, I would love it more and more.

I wonder if anyone was in the same boat as me? I always enjoyed a song because of it's "beat" and not because of the lyrics, so to hear a song like Adore, without knowing the words, is to hear some very unique inflections throughout a slower jam song.

Now, I can recite these lyrics by heart, and this is crowned my favorite Prince song of all time!

ADORE

Hell yeah, even I will still mess up some of the words, but it so good, you get the message and what Prince is trying to convey.

.

I am glad I have launched a love parade for Adore!

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Today it is "Extraordinary" because it's been playing in my head since I woke up. Can't listen to it on the internet though so I'll have to dig out the good ole CD and put it on the good ole Ipod. lol

Yes it is... Michael Nelson who worked arrangments says it had 'rock opera vibe' w/ double sized horn section. I listened live version from Montreux 2013.

When Doves Cry has been my favorite Prince song through the years. However, I have heard it so many times I rarely listen to it much and have a lot of other Prince songs playing in my head. Nevertheless, I still recognize it's utter brillaince. It felt like such an event when it was released to radio. Everywhere you went in the Summer of 1984, people of all shades of color and levels of coolness were sereiously jamming to that song. It was clear at that point that Prince's career was about to take off to a new level, even before the PR movie was released.

I can still remember the first time I heard it on the radio in 1984. I was mesmorized...

As someone who was born in 1986, I appreciate your account about the song's impact. WDC is the #1 song on the year-end charts for 1984. As someone who obviously wasn't alive at the time, your account helps me to better understand the impact of the song and put the numbers (#1 on the year-end charts) in perspective. Thank you.

heymistermusic,

What you wrote about reading the lyrics of "Adore" resonates with me. In general, I often have 2 look at the lyrics of a song in order 2 fully understand it. I'm a visual person, and seeing the lyrics in writing helps me 2 comprehend. That's just how my brain works. Also, I need 2 look at the lyrics because otherwise I sometimes mishear what the artist is saying. Sometimes, I even like 2 simultaneously listen 2 a song while reading the lyrics.

Oh man! Now I'm having flashbacks to sitting in my car, on release day of the "Symbol" album with the lyrics in my lap, reading and listening to the CD for the first time before I went into work. I even remember reading an interview with Prince asking if the lyrics looked ok inside the album. I think Prince wanted to make sure to include lyrics with his albums.

I still have to fire up a song and follow along with the lyrics on my phone. The last one I did that to was his live version of Noon Rendezvous from the birthday show. His falsetto is hard to follow along to, but once I read the words, all is good....

lyrics, what a concept! who woulda thought? haha lol

Mmmh, this is such a difficult question... Like 'asking a parent which one of their children they prefer' lol wink . The music I pick generally depends on what song is already on my mind and the current mood at the time. That said here is a list of songs that often appear in my playlists. They are songs that will lift me up when I'm down:

Friend Lover Sister Mother Wife

I Wish U Heaven (extended)

Anotherloverholenyohead

Housequake (Mo Quake)

The Beautiful Ones

Raspberry Beret

Power Fantastic

Call My Name

Purple Music
