So Universal sent a letter to the Estate saying they may ask for a refund because they're not sure they have rights to all the music they thought they did. How in the world does a deal like this get signed without Universal knowing for sure if they have rights to all his music, including everything in the vault? Where was the due diligence? Someone really dropped the ball here.

One word Londell who I think may have rushed into these deals without even seeing if some of the Vault material was Prince's or if WB has a claim on it.

I think he sold them on the material without doing any due dilegence to get a piece of the action.

Prince fired this dude and their must have been a reason.

OK but you would think Universal lawyers would do a better job dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Also I can't see Londell being this incompetent because it would just come back to bite him. Plus Charles Koppelman was involved. He's not an idiot.

Refund will be coming up.

further:

'Warner, which released Prince’s first 18 albums containing most of the hits,

signed another record deal with Prince in 2014 that secured its ownership of all of those albums in perpetuity overseas,

while giving it the right to block future releases from Prince’s storied vault —the centerpiece of Universal’s deal—

if the tunes were recorded while he was under contract with Warner.'

Well this week Omarr stated that due to new information about these deals the sibs wanted to make sure Bremer could be held liable for estate business. I am thinking this is the new information.

I think it is kind of cool if Prince signed a definite deal with WB it means that this is how he was going to get the vault material out and this was the final resting place for the material.

Now WB did a bad job marketing AOA and Prince4Ever but they might do better with remaster project. If the international rights her for indefinite let's hope the domestically it works the same.

This means his wishes are going to be honored will or no will.

So this vault deal is largely worthless as it is only valid for a certain (small) period of his career.

Eventually WB might get the vault for an even nicer price.

I think they mean license I do not think they mean ownership but this is good news for the Tyka and Omarr who were against the UMG deal.

Of course they will but if Prince wanted to work with them so be it. I also think the Tidal is not in danger since something in his deal with WB was allowing him to work with Tidal with all the WB stuff being on the site.

I don't know how this is good news for anybody as it makes the estate look completely incompetent. But also how the hell does universal sign a deal like this not knowing what they were getting?

WB music is owned by a private equity group not WB the parent company wanted.

Remember Prince signed this deal and he got rid of Universal. Fans liking WB has nothing to do with anything this is Prince fixing it so the music goes were he wanted it. Remember they found some paperwork on his desk concerning the remaster project and he loudly promoting the return of his masters and the licensing deal.

Yes I think that was a part of his deal. I think it was Londell and company that wanted the music off Tidal probaly because they could not get a kickback. I do not see why WB will care

McMillan did not inform UMG properly. Perhaps he didn't even know the full contractual situation.

He was just focussed on a quick buck (10%?) for commission on this deal.

The Probate Court has set up a web page "The Investigation Into the Death of Prince Rogers Nelson."

Nothing to see but for the Order re-sealing the search warrant.

I think the file will remain sealed but in order to "prevent" so many inquiries they can refer people to the site...meaning no interviews or public statements.

That the search warrants involved with this death investigation and all accompanying documents, except this order sealing the search warrant, shall not be filed as a public document to the Carver County Court Administrator's Office until Monday, April 17, 2017, or when a criminal case relative to these matters may be instituted, whichever occurs first. This order sealing the search warrant remains a public document.

God I hope so. What good does it do to have this stuff unsealed, especially if it doesn't really provide any answers. Will just become tabloid fodder. sad
