Nice to meet you Mr. Taylor!

I've got a year and a half to wait for mine.

Hope you like that purple finish!

I'm going classic original white....but I was tempted!

Greetings Cloud brother! wink

Oh man, the colour decision! I couldn't split them:

White - The original, absolutely iconic.

Peach - My favourite Prince music played on this one.

Yellow - Perhaps the most recognised by the public these days (courtesy of Cream?)

Blue - My favourite colour in the world.

In the end I figured because I couldn't split them, I should go something else entirely - so naturally, purple. smile

I ordered one built personally by Rusan.

Gonna be expensive but at least it will be a REAL guitar.

Really? That's great. It doesn't get any more real than that. Is there a limited number being built? Waiting list? Price?

Ordered book two weeks ago, still hasn't shipped. Good to know some things haven't changed around Paisley.

I like the Peach one too for the same reason, but I don't think I'd like it in person.

To me, the logical color is blue. Looks great!

Still gonna go white but I probably have a year to change my mind.

Serial number 162160 is a metallic purple colour. There's no picture I've ever seen of Prince playing it in public, but it has a letter of provenance from Paisley Park stating that it was used by him 'in rehearsals and photo shoots in Minneapolis'.

Andy Beech confirmed it as being one of the first 3 clouds from the series of 27 he built.

Six questions for you guys:

1. Anyone know who Paisley contracted out to make these guitars?

2. If you had a choice of pickups to use in this guitar, what would they be?

3. What kind of wood are Prince's original cloud guitars crafted from?

4. What wood these copies made from?

5. Are these copes a set in neck or bolt on?

6. How was the original cloud neck attached?

1. Schecter.

2. EMG 81 (bridge) EMG SA (neck) - this seems to be what Paisley Park/ Schecter are using in the new clouds.

3. Maple body and neck.

4. Mahogany: quality wood, not as bright sounding as maple - Schecter may be using this because it is a bit easier to carve.

5. Set 3 piece maple neck, with maple fretboard.

6. Constructed with a through-neck design: neck extends from the bottom edge of the guitar, through the centre of the body, all the way up to the headstock tip. 2 piece maple neck on the original Dave Rusan guitars, 3 piece on the later Andy Beech guitars. Separate maple fretboards on both.

Hope these answers help.

It's answers like this that make me really appreciate the Org, and the effort that some people put into informing others.

The added note about mahogany not being as "bright sounding" as maple was a nice touch too.

Can anyone speak to how the painted fret board would wear on these? I would have to imagine that the symbols themselves would dissapear over time as well as the paint chipping off from the friction of the strings. Someone school me on this to put my mind at ease, I am seriously considering getting one of these. Thank you!

There were reports of the finish used on the Diamond Series clouds Schecter made years ago coming off on players fingers. I've never owned one myself, so can't say how severe a problem this was.

The current guitars are probably too new to expect much feedback on yet, but it could be possible they would have the same issue over time. The finish is most likely a hard-wearing polyurethane or polyester based paint, but I suspect it will see some wear over time.

Have you ever seen an old secondhand Made In Japan Fender strat or tele with the natural maple fingerboard? These sometimes display worn-through spots on the poly-coated fingerboards. I guess this is what might appear on a cloud if it was actually played a lot.

My suspicion is that wear will likely occur on a cloud fingerboard no mater what price bracket the guitar is in, as there are limits to the durability of even the toughest modern finishes. Remember, even Prince's own guitars had to be resprayed regularly - with the added benefit that he could specify the colour to match his current aesthetic!

Another long term problem might be a yellowing of the top clear-coat, changing the overall colour - particularly on the white clouds. This can be mitigated by keeping the guitar out of direct sunlight for any long periods.

All these potential issues aside, I personally think the new Paisley Park/Schecter clouds are well worth getting if you have the money to do so. I'm sure once you get one in your hands you won't regret your purchase. Just wish I wasn't so damn broke myself!

That is true, more colors are on the way, but white will not be offered again.

Thanks! I'm glad I didn't get one now. I would much rather have a peach, blue angel, or yellow one.

The peach one is nice, but white for me is just the pinacle of these clouds. Perhaps 10, 20 years down the road we will be lucky enough to have another batch made. Shame I missed out.
