Shelby doesn't know his private life. Dr Phil (former Oprah couch assistant) said everyone puts on a front in public. Mayte Garcia and Manuela Testolini will know a lot more about his real persona, even if they go back a while. Shelby is sycophantically obfuscating.

She knows his private life more than anybody on this board.

But she's not saying very much. I think Mayte Garcia's book will reveal a lot. Intimate relationships are always going to reveal more to a person than working ones. There's a lot Shelby won't know.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

I don't understand why it's necessary to tear Shelby down for saying this how SHE felt during the weeks and months leading up to his death when she was talking to him during that time. She doesn't have to have some deep relationship to express HER personal feelings about her interactions with Prince prior to his death. Whether or not you agree with her POV is pointless, it's her POV and she had the experiences not me or you. So rather than brush her off and attempt minimize her relationship with Prince as compared to his former wives, just listen to what she said, take it with a grain of salt and move on. There's no need to shoot these shots at folks that were around him, they don't have to prove to you or me that their relationship wih Prince was more than work or should be respected by his fans.

I find that people here tend to declare that some associate "knows the really important stuff" when whatever that associate is saying tends to align with the orger's theories about Prince's life and death. If some associate says something that doesn't align, then the associate is dismissed as "attention seeking" or whatever.

My feeling is: Prince let people -- whether associates or fans -- know only what he wanted them to know, and kept a lot hidden from all of them. All these associates knew him at certain times and certain places, and the observed what they observed, but that's hardly a complete picture.

All I said is she knows more than (probably 99.99%) people on this site. Shelby not saying much could be a function of her wanting to keep private things private. She did say the weekend she was at Paisley (in Jan 2016) they were up all night talking. Of course it's none of our business what they were talking about but I'll bet it was about more than the weather.

Exactly. And yeah Mayte's book will most likely reveal very intimate stuff, but how close was she to Prince in the last 10+ years of his life? People like Shelby, Adrian, Damaris, Tamron, Van etc. have a better understanding of Prince circa 2016 than either of his ex-wives do.

So basically anything they say that is not revealing some private info is bogus and worthy of attack? C'mon man these people are trying to walk a line and prevent themselves from revealing things that mean a lot to them and keep his secrets while also honoring his legacy in public. They're not going to reveal things about a person they loved or a boss they loved but they also want to be as authentic as possible. Still, there is no reason to attack them for what they do talk about from their POV.

.
My opinion? Our man was paranoid about aging, which is why he constant mentioned AVOIDING it.
By the time he realized he'd worn his tiny bones down, it was too late.
.
I am older than most here and know that as we age, we feel the body change. He wore his down more than I've worn mine .
.
Was he dying? Likely not. But when he turned 55, that seemed to be the number that disquieted him. He wrote June. He talked more about his life. That is normal. As much as you live in the now, you have more to look back on.
.
He was doing his best. He had plans. But he was intelligent and saw life changing. Unfortunately, he had found a way to avoid the physical pain.
.
My opinion.

Yep. My 73 yr old Mom tells me that the older you get the more you start looking back over your life. If you have the chance and if you would like you can try to make amends for your wrong doings...like saying sorry to a friend that you had a falling out with, or apologizing to your children for something that may have happened. Or, reaching out to long lost people.

.

I believe this is what Prince was doing. . I agree with your opinion.

Oh good lord laura. No where in my post did I say I discounted anything that any associate has said (including Crutchfield). I merely observed that others on this board tend to laud those associates whose statements they feel align with their theories and dismiss those associates who don't.

-

And I made a fairly benign observations that Prince's associates only know what they observed (or rather, their interpretation of what they observed). That's true not just of Prince but of people in general. And Prince was certainly not some particularly open book with those around him.

-

And just FYI: I'm not interested in "debating" any of this with you. I can pretty much recite your theory and arguments from memory at this point.

Okay name me one associate who has said Prince was high out of his ass. Just strung out for 30, 20 or 10 years straight. We only can repeat what these people have actually said out of their mouths and yes Prince could show people they side he wanted to like all people do but that is not happening for no 10 or 20 years.
