What song do you find it the hardest to listen to now?

I was wondering if there is any specific song/songs you guys find it hard to listen to now that Prince is gone? For me, definitely "Holy River" and Somebody's Somebody."That's this week anyways lol...

One song I'm not ready for yet is "Purple Rain."

What about you?

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer or bonding agents. It's meant to better the repair and make the damage or wreckage part of the object's history, rather than to camouflage it as "new" again.

I say all that to say this: instead of forever being forlorn about Prince being gone, which happened one day, repair yourself by celebrating his music. Music is a medicinal agent that is universal, and it extends past race, gender, sexuality, language, religion, politics, and economic standing. No one has to be sad forever that Prince is dead.

John Lennon's death had a similar and visceral reaction among fans. His death was brutal, and unnecessary. It has reverberations through society for a long time after. But people used The Beatles and his solo music to unite and heal themselves. Every song isn't hard. We all miss him. But I can pull up Amazon Music on my iPad, turn on Batman or Lovesexy and sing my fat ass off in the shower, while drying off, coiffing my beard, moisturizing my skin, and plucking my fucking eyebrows - all while not feeling sadness or bawling a river of tears. Sure I have those times; it still bothers me greatly that he's gone. But his music is the arm-around-the-shoulder that I need sometimes. It's also the kick in the ass to remind me - life goes on. His life goes on here through his music and legacy, and it goes on wherever he's at right now with whoever's presence he's in. He's just not here, but he's somewhere.

If you think about it, and start listening to his catalog in 2018, one album a year - just focus on that record. Let the year correlate to date 40 years prior that it came out and the promotion began (For You 1978 for 2018, Prince 1979 for 2019) - you would literally have another lifetime to have his music to be your soundtrack through life all over again. That doesn't even address the oceans of material left behind.

So, what exactly are we missing? We're missing the chance to fill in the cracks with the golden treasure he left all of us - the music.

It's so hard for me to even say the words "passed away" or "died" when I refer to Prince no longer being here. My heart is forever broken...

Anyways, I was wondering what song/songs you find are the hardest to listen to now? For me every song is hard because I miss him but today when I heard "Holy River" I cried a river! The words tore me apart. Another one was "Somebody's Somebody." (Purple Rain I'm not ready to listen to yet). sad broken

I was definitely this way immediately following Apr 21. I couldn't bear the sound of his voice, or seeing his beautiful self in photos and videos. I just couldnt. But finally after a couple weeks i forced myself to start listening and watching. At first I couldnt get thru an entire song or video. At first it felt like a knife piercing my heart when his voice hit my ears and I listened privately to save others fron the inevitable tears thst flowed. I wondered several times if it was worth the pain. I am here to say that it was. I've since taken several long road trips and prince's music was my constant companion blasting from the speakers. His music gives me comfort now. I listen to him every day. Its my way of honoring him, remembering him and keeping him relevant because he deserves thst.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Here's a poem I wrote about Prince not too long ago its called.....

"If Only"

If Only U knew, the hundreds of purple tears I have shed since U left and went away,

If Only U knew, How heartbroken I am, that I never got to thank you in some small way,

If Only U Knew, How much your lyric's and music could forever change my heart and soul...

If Only U knew, how many times ive danced madly to your legendary funk and roll,

If Only U knew, that they lit legendary monuments Purple around the globe in your honour,

If Only U knew, all the love and tributes that's been made by everyone even Maddona!!

If Only U Knew, how empty and less magic the world feel's without your guitar lick's and smile

If Only U knew, how guilty we all feel if we were ever mean, and what we'd give to have you back....

IF Only for a while......

I don't know...some days I can listen to songs and then on other days I can listen to the same songs--say "Somebody's Somebody" and the loss hits me hard again. It's very strange... I've never had this reaction to a musician before... It's the same reaction I have about a close friend of mine who passed on a year and a half ago... I'm still trying to sort it out.

At this point, I find it most difficult to listen to the Piano & A Microphone shows. I will check in and listen to some of it now and then but I don't stay with it too long. It's just very depressing going back to that particular time.

It will always be "Be My Mirror" because that's the song I'm going to play at the wedding whenever my daughter gets married. Complete with my daughter singing the last few lines.

This past weekend I was completely alone and without any interuptions.

"My way back home" came on Spodify. I was an emotional wreck. I shut off Spodify and tried

to get past the feeling of loss, his peace and the thought of him being with his son.

I had to talk to a friend and fellow Prince fan, just to make sure I wasn't off my rocker.

I'm still having a hard time letting that song play still.

Oh man. Do I ever agree. I have never felt loss like this over someone I have never even met! Wish I could go back in time and appreciate in the moment what we had with this man and his genius. Just kind of took it for granted. Never even gave it a thought like he wouldn't be here. As far as songs that I find hard to listen to: Reflection and Sometimes It Snows in April.

Wherever U go, whatever U do
Oh please, remember that I'll always be there 4 U
U don't have 2 call, U don't have 2 say
Just think about me and I'll be on my way
I don't have 2 worry, I'm sure U'll be fine
Cuz if U stay happy, then what's your's is mine
Wherever U go, whatever U do
Remember that I'll always be there 4 U

Little darling, gotta go now
Don't know when I'll be coming back
Got my future all planned out
Got my bags packed

Things don't always turn out right
That's just the way it goes
Before I leave you there's just
A few things you should know

Purple Rain is hard to listen to because it is the last song he sang in the 4/14 Atlanta Piano & Microphone tour.

When I hear Purple Rain, it immediately makes me remember it is the last song he sang in concert and I feel sad.

Sex in the Summer...I can't listen to it because Ahmir's heartbeat is on it.

--

Sometimes it Snows in April...I can listen to maybe the first minute, then I have to move on to something else. I don't know if it's because of the association with his death or if I have a hard time listening to the whole thing because it's long. I think that it's a pretty song, it's just long.

--

I also have a difficult time with "Let's Have a Baby" and "Friend Lover Sister Mother/Wife," because they make me sad, but I love both songs. I have listened to them both several times in the past week.
