Yes, as Chrsitian who has been sick and in pain. It can test your faith more so than everyday hurdles. I always thought Prince was a Christian who struggled with his faith even to the point of trying to keep the things he liked ( charity, love, and forgiveness but also trying bring in things that are anti-Christian. May I ask why?

Does it have anything to do with the incident where a neighbor reported Gates trying to break into a home...that was Gates' own home? That all led to the "beer at the White House" with Obama.

I'd have been PO'd, too, if I was accused of breaking into my own, long-term home by a neighbor who didn't trust my race.

Gates seems like an honest, rational, fair and educated man to me.

Bennett, on the other hand, is a hero to the extremist right-wing (the very people who distrust the black race). That's the very antithesis of what P always wrote about ("I wish there was no black or white", no labels, love for all).
I think P was absolutely brilliant but often did not employ needed skeptitism. This is somewhat common in those without higher educations. Especially those who are always right about everything LOL (like me).

IMO, of course.

I am not doubting that Bennett is a smart writer and serious thinker, and is probably well-intentioned..considering Lincoln has at times gotten way too much credit. . And I am no expert on Lincoln. However, I have read 3 books on Lincoln, several articles about his colonization attempts, some of his original letters and speeches and the entire Abraham Lincoln historical cooperative (which a huge site with experts with extremely different views on Lincoln--some hagiographic, some neutral, some smear campaigns). I had a weird Lincoln obsession prior to the Lincoln film. Reading thoroughly about Lincoln was an emotional roller coaster (filled with disappointment, sadness and even at times appreciation)

Now, not all historians are writing hagiographic books about Lincoln. Many of them call him to task about his racism and slowness where abolitionism is concerned (Gates and Eric Foner included). Bennett's depiction of Lincoln however is considered one-dimensional and inaccurate. You don't have to be a road scholar to read a Lincoln letter in Lincoln's own handwriting in which Lincoln states implicitly that he disliked the xenophobic political movement known as the KnowNothings. (he had worked with them briefly because they supported the free soil movement, but he grew tired of their BS and expressed his dislike twice in private letters). Lincoln's two letters to different folks regarding the KnowNOthings (which can be seen in his own handwriting on the internet) both reveal a well-expressed dislike of the movement. Bennett pulled a quote from one of those letters and then left one word out (which in turn implied that Lincoln supported those folks.) There are articles showing both the letter and Bennet's depiction of that letter. What he did was dishonest. He could have made a case against Lincoln's legacy without lying. I read a pretty thorough dissection of that book years ago. It used archival letters and facts to do so. Revisionist history can be just as full of crap as mainstream lazy hagiographic history. Bennett's other books sound more grounded than this one was.

Bennett is loved and respected by many, so I'm not surprised that some in the right-wing might have appreciation for his work. With regard to Henry Louis Gates, many consider him a sellout apologist. He is safe, which is why he is the very well-compensated darling of the academic left and the media.

Bennett, on the other hand, is considered more of an African-centered thinker. It's no wonder so many "respected historians" were so critical of his brutally honest examination of the life of the beloved Abraham Lincoln.

I first came to know and love Mr. Bennett during his tenure as a writer and editor at Johnson Publishing's Jet and Ebony magazines. Also, his book Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America, 1619–1962 (1962) has been adopted at colleges and universities around the world.

Why would they stage his office? Maybe it was easier to keep a suitcase ready for travel in his office than to have it upstairs in his living quarters. He did travel a lot and he did pare down his staff.

lol come on, Laura's right on this one. Who says Prince wouldn't have a suitcase in his office? As a petsitter who occasionally does overnights at people's houses, I have to tell you that suitcases can be found in offices all the time. Or in the living room. Or many other places.

I mean, /really/. Why would they stage THAT, of all things?

people with "higher education" at least in my experience are the ones who don't question things enough, they have no life experience and are trained to live out of books. I could give examples galore.

YES!!
There is one book that can guide us to finding our answers, but our answers are not in books. They are inside of us, and that is the last place we look, because we have no true way to do that. Unless.....

It's also NOT intellectual. God would never make it so.

Affleck put the producers and Gates on the spot.

Do you think Prince didn't want certain things about his life "suppressed"?

Do you seriously believe Oprah didn't know that P's child had died? She and they obviously worked out how things would be asked and answered. She never asked, on camera, the obvious question "can we see your baby?"

It would be interesting to find out how many right-wing guests on Gates' show wanted things to be edited.

Gates and Affleck were exposed by Putin's buddy Assange/wikileaks.

gates' show wasn't suppossed to be a celeb thing but part science too. people always (falsely) claim that science is objective Gates just shot his credibility with that in my mind. I already don't believe, and most americans don't either, in the infallibility of science. I've also seen some pretty compelling evidence that dna tests do not and cannot get all your info. I also did not like how Gates seemed eager to tell black celebs, tina turner, morgan freeman and I forget who else, that they were not part Native American, mainly because he was trying to prove that most black people's claims of being part indian aren't true. How would you know if the tests are so innaccurate?

anyway, as a scientist, the correct way to handle that maybe would have been to just not do a show on him rather than conceal or lie. I wouldn't put that anywhere near comparing oprah's interview, or barbara walters or whoever with interviewing celebrities where you know, if you got half a brain that it's just mostly showbiz anyway.

Perhaps some of the keys to cracking the code are in this book.

Yes. He says look and you will find the TRUTH. It is there and he is waiting for us to find it. The superficial ones are finding the 'low-hanging fruit' and show pride in their find. The attuned ones search, discern and learn. Peace.

I find this List so VERY Intrigiung

Our Prince was a SEEKER and without a doubt, extremely open minded

The Secrets for all ages is

Proof enough for me that Prince had moved beyond the confines of organised Religious Dogma

The Lotus Flower, the Third EYE, He was giving Namaste bows in the last few years...and The Healing Chakra Art behind his Piano and Microphone Shows,

All clear indications that Prince transcended as a MYSTIC

Yes this! Peace.
