I suspect a line up of Rihanna, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd is not going to be very popular here, but I'd be very happy with it. We already had the 'propper' tribute with the BET Awards, time for a popular one... | |

It's so easy to pluck better lists from thin air. Example - D'Angelo, Beck, Foo Fighters, Santana. All artists who have publically lauded Prince, who together cover all the bases: funk, r&b, rock, experimental pop.
The tributes seem lazy and ill informed, but they are what they are, tributes on huge award shows who's audience probably don't know all that much about Prince either. It's easy to dump Prince in with the mainstream pop crowd... it just ignores the actual reasons why Prince is being celebrated in the first place. Still, always nice to see Prince get some honours. A proper Prince tribute would introduce him by playing HIS performances of great but lesser-known songs. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me. |

This is indeed great news and agree with others that the real tributes (sans Lenny Kravitz where the hell did he go???) this is popular artists that will resonate with the audience watching. Lets just hope they pay proper respect and do him justice The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

How Prince seemed to put some amazing how workers on stage, in spite of what was happening personally, and we got to see what they were all about at this BET tribute. They gave their all and as you can see they had fun and it was wonderful to see. | |

Good news. They will definitely use popular acts to do it given its the Grammy's and I will be shocked if they cover any songs that weren't top 10 hits. I do hope that they do it respectfully to Prince and to all of us that still have grief about his passing.
By the way, did you notice the thread that follows the announcement makes the prince.org threads look mature and respectful in comparison |

But the Billboard tribute was pathetic, BET didn't really cover rocker Prince and the official tribute (which I also think was a bit of a disaster) was mostly former band members. I don't mind Bruno Mars as I do think he's talented but The Weeknd? Just no. Paisley Park is in your heart

Bruno, DeAngelo, Lenny K, Santana, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Chaka, Larry G...just off the top of my head. HE admired them, and/or vice versa. Whatever, whoever just get it right. Prince wrote songs not only for himself, but for other people and groups. What if some of those others appeared on stage singing his songs - The Bangles, Celine Dion, Kenny Rogers, etc., as well as his friends such as Lenny and bandmembers like The Revolution? | |

I am really tired of these "tributes" to Prince because nobody can really do the man justice, let's be honest here and the names they've listed for this Grammys tribute so far are lackluster with maybe the exception of Bruno Mars who is always entertaining to watch perform IMHO.
