I assume you prefer the released version if you think people were, as you put it, whining. I think the one we got with Clinton is a good song, but the 86 version is an absolute classic. No, actually I prefer the 86 version by far, but it simply couldn't possibly have been released on GB, nor, by 1990, on any further album save an outtakes anthology a la Crystal Ball (and such a thing wasn't going to happen anytime soon in 1990), so at the end of the day it was that or nothing. Therefore I really didn't see why revamping it for GB was an issue if it was the only way we could have had it at the time.

I find the psychedelia of the 83/GB version quite Clinton-sounding. It must be noted that Prince recorded the original 2 days after he saw George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars live in LA, so it's very likely he had the P-Funk sound in mind: the groove and overall atmosphere of the original was already very much P-Funkesque, even without Clinton's later contributions to the track. I really would love to have it în full and in pristine sound quality: the snippet reveals what seems to be a very intense rendition of the GB version.

GB is far and away my least favorite Prince record. I think there are a handful of great songs, but the production is so cheesy and bad I can barely listen to it. And the associated artists strewn throughout ruin the flow.

GB might not be a perfect album, but just the fact that it has QUESTION OF U, ELEPHANTS & FLOWERS, JOY IN REPETITION, WE CAN FUNK, THIEVES IN THE TEMPLE, I mean those 5 songs right there are GREAT. I don't even think I can say there have been 5 or more consistantly great songs like that on any Prince album in the 90s...

If GB got rid of the associated artists tracks, and really dismal tracks like GRAFFITI BRIDGE, MELODY COOL, and filled with more PRINCE material... Wow, we'd be putting GB in the TOP 10 Best Prince Albums list...

Agree the P tracks are strong but Surely you can pick at least 5 great songs off TGE. It's all subjective of course but these must easily fit the bill.. . Shhh I Hate U Billy Jack Bitch Dolphin Endorphinmachine Gold

GOLD is indeed a good album... I think it is severly over rated here on the ORG but yes has many great tracks...

Can say that about D&P, LOVE SYMBOL, GOLD, are his most consistant albums of the 90's I believe...

"Tick,Tick,Bang" is a song that I have mixed feelings about.When I saw the movie,I thought "this is the song he chooses to battle The Time with?!"

I can't agree about the Gold Experience (love that album even with some of its outdated components--its aggression and lack of giving a shit makes up for polaroid sound effects etc ). However I couldn't agree more about Graffitti Bridge (obviously). Those five songs are five of his best 90's songs.

If I could put together a list of Prince's best 90's songs, it would consist mostly of the best tracks of TGE, the TRuth, GB and half of the Symbol album, and a 1/3 of Diamond and Pearls.

LOL--I agree, but, seriously, Tick, Tick, Bang was just the precursor to the big showdown. He brought the soulful Still Would Stand All Time for his final act in the battle, being all spiritual and stuff, as he liked to do.

Sorry, but Melody Cool is a great, classic song that was a good feature for this soundtrack album.

"Elephants & Flowers" (from the unreleased Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic album) and "The Latest Fashion" (later given to The Time). "Melody Cool" and "Still Would Stand All Time" were considered for an album called Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic in 1988, with the later two performed in some Lovesexy aftershows. "Still Would Stand All Time" was also considered for Batman, but was replaced by "Scandalous".

No mixed feelings at all.

The Question of U is enough to make any album a masterpiece , and yet we were gifted with Joy in Repetition, Thieves in the Temple and We can Funk...I love it!

same people who hate GB also hate Emacipation for having too many throwaway tracks.....instead of realizing GB 40 minutes and 2 CDS of Emancipation are SUPERB
