So, besides the album, what tracks should be on the Reissue and what tracks could be on the Reissue?

Early demo's and songs that where considered to be in the movie, but didn't make it. Hopefully. There is documentation on recordingsessions in "The Vault". Several songs are mentioned from the pre-Purple Rain era. Perhaps there are more songs and demo's?

But I have no clue, what will be included in this release. As hopes and wishes of many differ, one can expect that people will be disapointed.

If there is only one song on it that was really "previously unreleased" (or better said unheard). A hidden gem that has not been shared amongst bootleggers, something that was unknown to both casual fan as avid collector of Prince music, wouldn't make that the whole project worthwhile to most, no matter what configuration?

Unless as much care is taken on this remaster as with the 2009 Beatles remasters, the draw here is the unreleased material. Just don't brickwall it, please.

There are a lot of people here that you can go to for everything Prince without being so thoroughly unpleasant (although it's your choice and absolutely none of my business, I know).

I am wondering if the release seems to good to be true. Generally this means it's not true, something experienced quite often related to Prince releases. (for whatever reason, different per not released/released in edit form album)

.

Recently there was a Prince 2cd collection with unreleased material: 4ever. Having one song new on the set makes it a release with "unreleased material", unfortunately.

.

By that token, I fully expect that one disc will have something like this tracklist:

17 Days 3:54

Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix) 7:35

Erotic City (Make Love Not War Erotic City Come Alive) 7:24

God 3:59

God (Love Theme From Purple Rain) 7:54

I Would Die 4 U (Extended Version) 10:15

Another Lonely Christmas (Extended Version) 6:47

.

This would make a running time of 47:48. If they really want to pad it, just add the audio from the Take Me With U promo video (actually my favourite version of the song) and the unedited 30 minute version of the I Would Die 4 U rehearsal.

.

Of course, that would still leave another disc to speculate over, hopefully it will contain period appropriate material, but I'm not holding my breath until we get the actual tracklist, or even until I have the discs/download in my hand/player.

.

Still, I'm at least eagerly awaiting what it will become. Whatever it is, I hope it will become a big seller, so that there is incentive to release more releases like it!

Warners always seem to give off creepy vibe like they're cashing in.

Frank Zappa described Warner Bros. thus, "I'll prove to you that I am bad enough to go to hell... because I have been through hell, I have seen it, it has happened to me - remember I was signed with Warner Brothers for eight fuckin' years!!!" Basically, they wouldn't let him release anything. But because he wasn't popular after he died they still wouldn't release anything. You're either dead musically, or you're a dead artist likely not to be profitted off.

Also, they don't consult the fans, and we don't know who's making the decisions because they're essentially nameless. In 200 years time P will probably be as popular as Elvis or MJ - it wouldn't surprise me if his back catalogue numbers between 5000-10,000 songs. That's a lot of albums. And it seems as though Universal will be making all the money off them- a big missed opportunity by Warners such was their short-term thinking.

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

Were they on the original "music from the motion picture"? No.

Why? because Prince didn't want them there.

Why not, are they outtakes? No: he wanted them on albums titled Ice Cream Castles and Apollonia 6.

Why? because Prince had an artistic vision for three different albums and wasn't gonna pile-up songs for the mere sake of piling them up.

You like the songs? I do too. Great news: they're already available on 2 awesome albums titled Ice Cream Castles and Apollonia 6. If you don't have those songs get those albums, they're there for you to enjoy.

You want them remastered? Petition WB for an Ice Cream Castle and an Apollonia 6 remaster.

Music from the motion picture or not, putting those songs on a PR remaster would be gross.

Don't be short-sighted, be ambitious, see the big picture and embrace it. Your life will be much improved.

The arguments for and against including The Time, Apollonia 6 (+ Modernaire) are all valid.

Compromise: add yet another disc, this one including the relevent protege tracks that were part of the Purple Rain experience.

Would that solve the dilemma?

It's gonna be proper expensive by the looks of things. Judging by the Velvet Underground and Nico special edition set (6 discs) retail price. Priced too high, maybe many people will torrent download it instead hmmm

it can be a few things: it can be that prince lied about and deliberately downplayed the content
of the remastered, expaneded PR, for whatever reason. i don't think that likely.

it can be that he did give them 2 albums worth of unreleased material *after* he said that it
was just the original album with better sound.

it can be that they cooked this whole package up after prince died, which seems likely since at
least susan was brought in to consult (or am i remembering this wrong?) -so what would there
have been to further consult on or put together if they were releasing it as prince delivered it?

so where does this 2 albums' worth of vault material come from? it's been reported that even
the estate hasn't been through the vault to catalogue it, at least until a few weeks ago. so i'm
scratching my head as to where warners got this unreleased material.

is it from the same source they got 'moonbeam levels' from? (i know they act like prince gave
them 4Ever, as such, but i have a hard time believing this, especially with regards to the song
selection on it and the inclusion of sexy m.f. -the mastertape to which has been erased if we're
to believe ian boxill, or am i remembering this wrong too?)

anyway, mastertape erased or not, i don't think prince would place either that one or head on
a compilation. (since he had a dj jank head from the turn table in australia not too long ago).

sooooo. where did they get 'moonbeam' and where are they getting this other stuff from that
is supposed to accompany the PR remaster?

do they have a stash of songs kicking about their offices/in storage/in vaults/whatever? they
got albums and singles and such from prince pretty often it seems -just read the "come" and
"gold experience" threads. prince delivers an album and warners is asking for other songs
from the sessions to be included etc. a second version of "come" is handed to them and now
the 'electronic' mix of the song is gone and replaced with something else.

my thought is - does he get the first test pressing or whatever we call that, back from WB?
or do they just keep it. why give it back anyway? prince has the multi track tapes i guess,
and warners pays for studiotime so owns the recordings anyway?

is that how they got a lot of 'other' songs during his time with them? stuff they just had on
compilations and various projects he handed to them through the years. a song here and
a song there, or perhaps an entire album?

i wish someone with warners would just give an interview about all these things one day so
a bit of clarity could be had.

i'm just very curious as to what is on those discs, to be released in june, and where they got
that material from.

if prince did not hand it in together with the remastered PR and they haven't been able to
just go into the vault and take some tapes (and how would they know what exactly was to
be on this 'era' release anyway since the vault, from what we heard, is hardly a very well
alphabetised/chronological library of recordings) -where the heck did they get this from?

they must have had it then. but how? nuts

oh well, it's drama again. as a prince fan for the last 30 odd years i've become addicted to
the drama i guess lol not a single release without questions and weirdness lol

Is it possible that while P regained ownership of the masters as a part of his agreement with WB, the actual physical master tapes of his WB songs remained stored in the WB vaults?

Duh!
That is what they do.

They do not want to over-feed the market.

Like in the old days one (multi disc) album per year.

Of course they might have some work to do to remaster the two discs with `unreleased` songs, perhaps the videos as well, but that does not take until june.

They try to add some symbolism to release around his birthday.

And then you one can wait again until the next release.

.

So I hope that Universal can do something here.

not necesarily bad... if Purple Rain Deluxe is anything to go by, I'd be more than happy with an expanded set around his birthday and one around christmas.

That wouldn't be overfeeding (as there are not as many singles to release, or a tour or movie to coincide), but would still release quite a lot of material for us to chew on. And it would have them going for at least another 20 years or so.

I still think the edit of the "wake up wendy" "yes I will" rehearsal that has been circulating for some time IS the final version Prince "finished" and intended to release.

But if it is any other version I will be pleased. (I just think the vocal on the performance at First Ave was not as well captured as this rehearsal)

i doubt it will be a true remaster just a digital filter and some attempt to make it a little louder maybe a tweak to the EQ but I highly doubt they will do anything even close to the actual old school process.
