Props N Pounds, Latin! Will have to find time to read this, but...I suspect it's par-for-the-course when you have workaholic tendencies!!
.
.
Update: read the article, over breakfast no less! Well-written, insightful, paints a lucid picture of one of the dopest/most prolific artists of the 20th AND 21st century. It also got me to thinking whether P's whole "Building a Mystery" shtick was to create a larger than life persona post-mortem. Wouldn't doubt it: Skipper was LIGHT YEARS ahead...in more ways than...wait for it...7even!

Near the university building where I have most of my classes, there's a cafe that sells pancakes and omelettes. Needless to say I'm their frequent customer cool

At risk of being a pseudo-psychoanalyst, don't others notice how the 'making food for others / making and watching them eat, whilst not partaking oneself' is just a little bit controlling? It's one of the things that is constantly cited as a symptom of anorexia / related eating disorders. And, in turn, those disorders are considered to be more about control than anything else...
.
Love P, love his love of pancakes and egg-related foodstuffs - but it strikes me that his relationship with food was much the same as his relationships with people, and his relationship with music: P(rince) Control. lol

Remember how he said that at one point he was so poor, he would stand outside McDonald's and smell the food because he couldn't afford to buy it ? He was so wounded, poor thing. Miss him so much bheart

I would only smell the McD food if I wanted to self-harm.

I can speak on the Black experience in America. Not the mouthpiece of my peoples, just my three cents. Food and family mix. Food becomes the item that brings the various types of personalities found in a family, together. No expert, but I suspect the same is true of Jewish, Italian, Irish, Asian, Indian, African, etc. families. Some of my African friends pine for a family members Fu-Fu (sp?), while some of my Jewish friends wax poetic over their grandma's latkes (sp?), and some of my Chinese friends talk about how delicious Century Eggs taste, when done the "right" (read: family) way. Again, just my three cents.

Cosign on this! Feeding people is one of the ways to show you care for them. I don't eat much while I am hosting others either - I'm usually busy being hostess! foodnow

yeahthat Anyone who cooks pancakes knows they are best served immediately. You can hold them in a low oven for a time while you make the eggs and try to serve it all while hot. It's more fun to be a "short order cook" and serve your guests right off the griddle so they can eat em hot. You have to stand at the stove anyway to make the batches so everyone's in the kitchen hanging out.

-

When I was a kid my Dad would make animal pancakes. We would call out an animal and he would free form custom create our special pancake.

Brand new boogie without the hero.

Yup.

Isn't food in all cultures synonymous with nurturing and love and comfort?

One of my greatest regrets is that since childhood the texture of pancakes makes me sorta gag. I'm a French Toast or blintzes kinda gal. Yum

I like this article and enjoyed seeing the video again of the basketball game.
Regarding Toyre's comments, it is not Prince's fault that he came from a dysfunctional family, and he was very wise to create a family of his own with his band members who loved him and he them.
