How do you feel about Prince using the b-word and the h-word in his music?

Does it bother you? And if you are not a woman, what do you think about him using it? Would you use these words in some of your lyrics? Does it bother you that you shouldn't sing these songs (unless you alter the lyrics)

Words are words. He was a poet as well as a musician. I'm more upset that he stopped using those words more than anything else. His catalogue was too vast to focus on those words on particular.

If you don't want to hear him use those words, go listen to Animal Kingdom.

I am a woman. I can't be in his shoes. Unless I'm singing "Do me baby" to a man

"Billy Jack Bitch" was about Star Tribune "writer" CJ, one of the thorns in his side when it came to gonzo journalists. He name checks her in the song, too. The whole song is about a critic writing ill-will about him.

What if I called U silly names
Just like the ones that U call me?
What if I filled your eyes with tears
So many that U cannot see?

She called him "Symbolina", among other things. The story goes that he had her in his car driving around, and left her ass out in the middle of somewhere (not in a field, but far from the point of origin), and she was forever pissed after that. (That's the short version.)

She printed lies and half-truths about him:

What distortion could U let your pen forget 2day?
What misfortune left your heart so broken U only say
Words intended 2 belittle or dismay?
What if I say U lie?

Then he slyly name checks her:

Joy - it's in the dictionary
See "J" - Billy Jack Bitch

"See J" sounds like C J.

The song samples Fishbone's "Lyin' Ass Bitch", and that's them you hear saying "BIIIITCH" at the end of the song.

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Wait a minute... you mean to tell me he ALSO went through something similar to what I go through. Okay now I do know how he feels! What about the song "Dark"?

Not sure what ASLO is. Unless I'm brain farting.

Also, I meant to ask - what's the H word? Ho? Heifer? Hundalasiliah?

I don't mind. I think what matters more is the content rather than the form. There are sexist songs from the 50s, like Hard Headed Woman, where no b-words or h-words occur and then there are completely empowering songs that contain a couple of these words wink I absolutely adore P Control, U.N.I.T.Y., and Formation

I think it's "Ho", but I'm not sure.

Anyway, nope those words don't bother me regardless of whether P's singing them or someone is simply speaking them.

Elton John sang "The Bitch is Back," and IIRC Billy Joel sang that song when Elton was inducted in the Kennedy Center Honors one year. I don't have a problem with it in that song, or "Billy Jack Bitch" for that matter.

By the "h" word do you mean "ho?" Because I have a HUGE PROBLEM with that word, and the word it comes from, because if I could, the "w" word would be eliminated from the face of the earth. That's just me, because I do not like men categorizing women as that, because men who do tend to have small feet, if you know what I mean.

So you don't want men using it against women, but what about women using it?

Cuz I've been known to use it for men AND women, but mostly men.

P had small feet and a small body, but if rumours from the numerous women who would know are to be beleived, that myth didn't hold true for P.

Let me say up front that I think Prince was a class act all the way, and I do not believe in his private life (I did not know him personally) that he would use the "w" word when speaking about a woman, because he did not seem to be that type of person. I was referring to the classless, low life men who categorize women as T + A and basically that's it. Now, I tend to like to buy certain things, and you could say I was a ______ w..... because I always buy all those things. When I was growing up in the 60s, men would call women "frigid" if the women were not what they wanted sexually; the "w" word brings that f word to my mind, and I hate both. This is just me.

It doesn't bother me at all. There's people out there that talk like that all the time. Prince would do that back then to relate to them and seem to be "hip" or current with the times. I don't know why you guys continue to post questions like this. You make it sound like we're living in the 17 or 1800's.
Gone are the days where people were nice to each other, engaged in meaningful conversation, and treated woman with respect. A man would kill or die to protect a woman's dignity and reputation. Today, not so much. We thought it was cute when NWA rapped about nappy headed bitches and ho's. It no fun unless my homies can have some, Remember that? Woman went along with it and it's only gotten worse. Prince's use of those words seem elementary compared to today's music.

Nope, not at all. Especially when applied to Cheryl Johnson, aka C.J., the no-talent hack employed by the Star Tribune who spent years referring to Prince as "Symbolina" and wrote numerous columns chiding everything the man did. He got her back not only with the song, but had her thrown out of PP once during a gala the mayor of Mpls was holding there. When she opened her mouth to complain about the $100 she paid to attend the event one of Prince's bodyguards produced a crisp $100 bill which she grudgingly accepted as she was escorted out. falloff

Sorry, back on topic: His use of certain words was never an issue for me. He used them in the right context it seemed and were pretty tame compared to others out there.

Why was that woman so relentlessly snide to P?

Even when he tried to not be mean back she just kept coming. Even after 4/21 she did an article being snide under cover of "Yeah, I'll miss him". Doesn't make sense.

She even admits to taking her friend, a P fan, to see PP and P being in the driveway and him talking to her about why she was so unpleasant to him all the time and she says P asked her if he had dated her in high school or something and she says she told him that she doubted she was "his type".

Was that her problem with him? Mad cuz she had a crush on him but figured she didn't have a chance with him so she decided to be publicly mean?

confused sad

Ok, seriously? If that story runs true, then he deserves to get his ass reamed. You don't leave someone out in the middle of nowhere if you're their only transportation, no matter how much you dislike them. I'd've found a way to punch the little jerk in the face. Directly. I mean, come the fuck on, brah! That's just ridiculous and childish.
