Beautiful song! This video must be the music video. Why was the album credited only to the NPG, not Prince?

Google "Prince's fight with Warner Brothers." lol

Google "Prince's fight with Warner Brothers." lol

Genesia, Saying "Google 'Prince's fight with Warner Brothers" with lol at the end is unnecessarily snarky. I am well aware of his fight with Warner Brothers. It's a perfectly legitimate question to ask why the album Exodus, released in 1995, is credited to the NPG instead of to Prince & the NPG. Prince released Chaos & Disorder in 1995 and Emancipation in 1996, and both of those albums are credited to prince. By the way, I was born in 1986, so I was just a kid when his feud with Warner Brothers was taking place.

It isn't unnecessarily snarky, it's right on the mark. In 1995, Prince was still under contract to WB. Because of the feud, he could not (or would not) record or perform under his own name. That is why Exodus was released under NPG. That's why he has a scarf over his face in this video.

If you are "well aware" of his fight with WB, you would know this. But how like a millennial to get butthurt over a light-hearted comment. That's what the lol at the end of the post signifies. Funny you don't know that, either.

@ Genesia, I was never offended by the "light-hearted" comment. Rather, I was asking merely standing up for my right to ask the question. Furthermore, I refuse to stoop to the level of making a generalization about someone based on his or her generation, as you just did to me.

I think he was always ToraTora when he played with the NPG on NPG only songs and the album and not prince so that may be why Michelle or it was him trying to give more independence and top billing to the NPG at that time when independence was his fight too. He did interviews in the UK as ToraTora promoting Gold so the line got murky in 95 (or we know our Prince loved his pseduonyms and a good mystery.) Either way, Count the Days is a beautiful thing, thanks for posting this Latin... and there's live versions of him and the band playing it floating the interwebs that always make me smile too Michelle. Hope thats what you needed, love. hug

I never, at any time, said the question shouldn't be asked. You just didn't like the answer you got and decided to get pissy about it.

And you were the one who brought age into it, Snowflake - not I.

In a nutshell he was making a record independently while signed to WB in violation of his contract.

There is a video of a live performance of "Count the Days" on YouTube. Not sure if I should post the link or not...don't want it to be removed from YouTube.

This song has been on YT for quite some time. Looked up the lyrics; for such a great melody, the lyrics were surprising.

Indeed, but you could take the Count The Days as waiting for his anger to go or something like that.

Love this. heart Prince was so clever with his politics. I think the lyrics have profanity to convey the profane nature of American history. That's just my twocents
