What Ashkenaz said about hearing it is true because I played it for him. What Ashkenaz said about hearing it is true because I played it for him. He's a close friend of mine and lives by me. I got him into inadvertently by always playing "Exodus" and the 88/89 Madhouse 24. He doesn't have a copy and thats the truth. Granted I wasn't thrilled that he posted about it, but I agreed with what he said. He doesn't have a copy and thats the truth. Me personally,

I wanted to just give the song for free in celebration of 6/7/16. But it wasn't my call. I thought it would've been a beautiful gift to the community. It would also make the playing field equal. The outcome of that charity would've been taken, pressed on cd where someone would make a killer profit or a mint. As for what Susan Rogers, (and remember this is the same person that said "Adonis & Bathsheba" was a terrible song) she experienced the whole situation, so of course it would have a very memorable experience on her. Working with Prince on every song from 86 "Wally" wouldnt be the one song out of everything recorded in 86 that you would pick out . It was the experience. The song isn't the be all-end all of unreleased tracks. Your rallying around the wrong tracks. STOP DICK TEASING PEOPLE with the track, but go ahead and fuck up and make someone in France $20,000.

But you see it's not a bootleg yet, If someone hands you a tape of unreleased recordings that you keep to yourself, its just that. Know if I sold it or made a Prince unofficial cd then it would turn into a bootleg.

Fair enough - I just meant the music that you own that I don't, which I assume is more than just the one song, didn't think too much of my choice of word. Again, I'm incredibly jealous, but that's my problem and not yours. I wish I had the connections, but I don't. Hopefully when the estate get their act together we'll start getting some of this music. Until then, it is good to know that the song (and others) are out there and who knows, just the same as Come Elektra Tuesday leaked not too long ago, so could Wally. Or not, we'll just have to wait.

I'm not mad or upset at anyone. I'm just protecting the song and warning some what will happen. It happened to me before but never again. Since Prince passed theres been a BC/AC change with this. If your operating in the BC mentality you will loose. It's the AD or AP, respect the music and the message. Dont try to whore it out like some "Cosmic Day" bullshit. For some being this deep into Prince isn't jusi about bopping around to tune. The music isnt just a commodity.Thats all. It's in my screen name.

so if i'm reading this the right way, the reason people stopped sharing free boots
is because a certain french someone prints them on cd and sells them as limited
releases (we all know who anyway but i won't name them), making a lot of money
off other people's free shares?

too bad sad

although the people who flock to that person and still buy those cd's are silly, too.

let's just hope that within a few years we will start seeing a few outtake boxsets
or rereleases of his albums with bonustracks.

i'm not hung up on 'holy grail' tracks anyway. for me it's just another unreleased
song and i'd like to hear them all. "love (never has 2 say goodbye)" is as cool to
me as "come elektra tuesday".

but rather than being drip fed a snippet, then months later another slightly longer
yet watermarked snippet and even later the whole song, oops no, a fanmade loop
of the snippets etc etc etc. i'd rather wait and get a full discs worth of stuff at once,
in good quality. something to add to my collection rather than file away in a folder
after the initial excitement wears off and it's just another loose track with no home.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

We live in 2017 AD. BC means before Christ. It's just an analogy.Im not comparing Prince to christ but more so a time split or new era. What im saying is that since Prince died, the old ways and values have change. It's a new era of Prince fandom and also of doing things.

The truth of that is that they don't even know what they are going to do post PR Deluxe. The Estate, put simply, is a total mess right now. The siblings are fighting with each other and with Londell. It's a huge mess and deciding which tracks and what projects to release right now is very far from their minds. It's a long road ahead before anyone figures these things out.

I respect Big Chick, his knowledge (shared before and hopefully in the future), and his respect for those who shared before and to whom he feels the decision belongs to "free" this track (and others). However, I don't understand what he means about this change in perspectives after Prince's death. Obviously, I'm one of those people who only has stuff after it hits the wider collecting audience--so from a personal perspective I want everything widely shared--but I really don't understand the value in retaining material within limited groups now. Before, I could see that sources could be revealed, causing hassles with Prince (maybe)--but that surely isn't a bigger worry now than before. As someone who believes that historically everything we can hear matters, I worry about the continued holding back. If people wait too long, the estate may release versions of the tracks, weakening interest in what people currently have (even if they differ somewhat from what's present in the vaults or from what's released from the vaults). Tracks with small differences, like the "drum intro" version of Joy in Repetition, aren't going to receive official release--if variations on unreleased tracks like that are in a few private hands, once an official release happens they might never be broadly circulated. That would be a loss to the community. And I don't understand the concern that someone might press the tracks and make some money from them--if we as a community share widely enough when things are set free, then people who don't understand the concept of lossless files can go ahead and spend their money (I guess)--so what? Obviously most people get the concept, and no longer buy what's re-issued by the pay-for-it labels (or the folks who sell the free labels' releases).

I'm sure I'm missing something here, but I don't know what it is.

@Eddie:

I'm in the same boat as you and don't disagree with your statements.

That said, for those that have tracks that aren't in wide circulation, I understand the frustration that must come from every new leak ending up on the next pressed bootleg with the knowledge that somebody in the chain broke the trust of others for profit.

While I would agree that it seems a logical solution would be to also fileshare a rip of the boot thereby cutting the profits of the bootleggers, there are still enough people willing to pay for CD bootlegs for a profit to be made.

It sucks that some are willing to profit not only off Prince but also off the kindness and trust of fans for whom it's not about money.

I want to hear Wally, too. But I respect BigChick's decision to hold back.

Today I heard a first glimpse of Wally. So if I can find it, everybody else can. Apparently the whole song will be available on a CD soon. Let's see how this pans out...

First off
