wouldn't it be awesome if one of the concert films was the Second Coming? A girl can dream...

I would sincerely hope not!

Firstly, I think they should keep Purple Rain Deluxe to the Purple Rain era. Nothing before August '83 (except maybe stuff like Baby I'm a Star demo) and nothing after April '85.

Secondly, what we know about the Second Comming indicates that the film was never edited - so to restor the film and put it together would be a csstly proces - one I doubt they would do for what will be a test for future releases.

Plus nobody (outside of hardcore fans) even knows what the Second Coming is - or that it exists. And WB isn't going to add anything to that release that doesn't contribute to its economic viability.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I only hope that they DID take the time to make it well worth the wait...

Why are people even going back & forth about non-Purple Rain stuff being on this release? It's a Purple Rain deluxe release, it's hardly going to have anything not from that era on it.

My guess is that you're right, but the wording of the press release was (deliberately?) confusing. Talking about two 'albums' of unreleased material, as opposed to 'two discs' or 'two hours worth of' or something like that has made room for a lot of speculation. Anyway, we'll find out soon-ish!

Please let them first do a decent stereo mix.

.

One has no effect on the other. Stereo and 5.1 mixes are two different target audiences. Having said that, I doubt we'll see a 5.1 for any Prince release.

.

That is not what I meant.

I do not have a 5.1 system, nor a 5.1 headphone.

Stereo is hard enough to do properly.

Were you given any screenshots or snippets? Literally anything to indicate truth to your claim?

Can I ask why you didn't take it? Not that I don't believe you because I don't think you'd have a reason to lie. But did the qualitiy of the footage turn you off from wanting it?

It's definitely a niche market, but they are absolutely fantastic to listen to. Sometimes artists will include a 5.1 mix within super deluxe editions. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here did that. That would be an incredible addition to any of the P reissues.

.

Certain artists, such as Pink Floyd, are better suited for that kind of listening experience. But if any of my favorite artists offer 5.1 mixes, I do buy them. I'd do the same with any Prince 5.1s, if they are ever offered.

Totally agree. 5.1 makes for a very interesting listening experience, as certain instruments and vocals can be isolated, or you can be surrounded by the music. In addition to a couple of Fleetwood Mac albums where they 5.1 mix was included ("Tusk" and "Mirage"), Rhino put out an excellent box set of the Velvet underground's "Loaded" with a 5.1 DVD . I think certain Prince albums- especially "SOTT", "Parade" and "Purple Rain", would really lend themselves to such treatment...just a dream, I guess

That's why I say it would be great to do it as an extra in a set, and not as the only mix available. I will say that if you ever heard a good 5.1 surround mix, it would blow you away !
