I would prefer WB to take THEIR time and get PR Deluxe absolutely right. The Prince 4ever release is simply horrible. PR deserves better. Much better.
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

How many threads is this now that you've found omens of death in Prince's Work? Gotta be honest. It comes across as a little creepy and obsessive.

Susan Rogers being involved does nothing for me. I was born in '82 So I'm on the younger side of the fan base, but most of the recordings with her credited as the "sound engineer" sound... ghastly.

Feel free to set me straight if I'm missing something.

Mods could we please change the thread title to "Warner Brothers taking their time with PR Deluxe" Spelling and typos are fine in text, but not in titles, makes us all look ignorant.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

A good friend of mine runs a Warner Music company in an influential English speaking territory but I cant say which. Anyway according to him there is little doubt the Purple Rain re-master and deluxe package will be delayed. He said it is not due to Warner indifference but soley to do with the Prince estate being in contest and somewhat in disarray. He said there are a number of claims against the estate (in some cases from "family" members) which until resolved will not allow anyone to release new, un released Prince music. Interestingly he did say the Warner Group were offered by the Prince estate to buy the entire Prince catalogue (released and unreleased) but again I cant go into further detail her as to why the sale did not occur.

FYI this conversation occured cause I raised with him how poor I thought Warner's engagement was in releasing a tired, b grade hits compilation when the PR remaster at Christmas 2016 would have been an exciting, strong seller and far more satisfying for his loyal fans.

There is a reason for this...

Susan Rogers was brought in by Prince to fix tape machines and ended up being the engineer because she was there!

She has said in interviews that Prince was not a perfectionist and when a song was recorded he was "done" with it and ready to move on to the next one

I think this combination resulted in some less than perfect recordings - but, more importantly IMHO, maintained the energy and rawness of the performance

So I can completely understand where you are coming from TraSoul82 - but just ask yourself this question...

Would you prefer a "perfect" recording without the energy, creativity, rawness of Prince, which seems to "capture the moment"?

I'm certainly not looking for perfect, just tolerable. And it's not all the recordings so it throws a lot of the compilations off.

I just find it odd that a monster label like WB wouldn't make sure that the sound quality would be top notch.

At the end of the day, what really upsets me is that it really hurts P's chances of breaking into mainstream with vault tracks in an age where a certain sound quality is taken for granted by the average listener. I'll still enjoy them because he got a pass with me about 2 decades ago.

Possible but at the same time odd because this involves something that was agreed upon before his death.

.

Interestingly he did say the Warner Group were offered by the Prince estate to buy the entire Prince catalogue (released and unreleased)

.

As has been speculated and is perfectly logical. Makes sense to allow WBR to create deluxe editions of proven sellers.

Well I have to say this and I'm not sure where it should go. So. I'm not impressed with Moonbeam Levels. Or should I say I can't listen to Prince say he's looking for a better place to die and he doesn't want to die!!! Are they crazy?? Who in the world made that shit decision to have him singing about death on the first release out of the vault???? There is supposed to be a thousand songs in there and we get this???? If Susan Rodgers is responsible for that decision I'm not excited about anything she does!!! I always loved hearing the unusual word choices and pronunciation he used in his music and this one is just too too sad. I got the cd when it came out and after hearing the phrase another place to die I couldn't really listen to it until today and now I'm sorry I did. Does anyone have these feeling about the song??? I don't care if I'm being too picky. It's my heart and that hurt!!!

Prince sings about death on just about every album

I really wouldn't worry about this.

.

Before two long we'll be discussing the 5th anniversary of the deluxe release.

.

However, this could get cancelled and then we'll spend eternity hunting for a confirmed configuration.

On the release day of Purple Rain, I went to the wrecka stow and plopped down my hard earned cash for the album. I played it so much, I swear the grooves in the record turned a different color from overplay. I loved that soundtrack so much, and I'm bettin' no matter what is released on the deluxe version, I'll find myself hitting "repeat" on it quite a bit.

The passion he put into that album is still mind boggling to this day!

(by the way, I just started working with a Nikki) omg
