Emirates Airline and their Prince conundrum...just a funny little story...

Just flown back to NZ from UK. Emirates have a wonderful selection of music to listen to as you fly. One such selection is a "box set" of Prince albums, this includes Parade. Curiously, their compilers aren't quite familiar with Prince's product otherwise they would have noticed the difference between this:

The actual album cover, and this:

The cover they have chosen to appear on customers screens the length and breadth of the globe as they wing their way to their destinations.

Made me laugh.

Apparently, this is where this cover photo comes from...and this makes it even funnier:

Let's try this:

Better - so the cover we all know and love...and...

The cover on all Emirates flights via their on-board entertainment system.

Hilarious.

Funny, eh?

Yes - I had the privilege of flying to Germany at the back end of last year and seeing Under The Cherry Moon on the Air NZ playlist...they even had< I think it was them, the Craig Charles Radio 6 show from the time Prince died as a podcast option too.

I've seen this b4. I thought the purpose was to hide the belly but in the end I realize u still see some belly and get a finger as a bonus, so I fail to see the point at all.

IDK what idiot was responsible for this fake cover but I believe 100 whiplashes to be the appropriate response. Or plain old beheading for that matter.

I pointed it out to one of the stewardesses... and we had a giggle about it. She didn't appear to be at all concerned that her clients were being given the finger by their entertainment system...I found that funny, too. Odd, considering, as you mention, the lengths airlines go to ensuring what can be seen on the screens doesn't offend.

Even more curious, though, was the absence of Purple Rain from the album boxset for Prince...I think they went Prince through Lovesexy - minus Controversy and Purple Rain - and then D&P and Symbol to complete the set.

It's a San Francisco drag troupe. They would perform an entire album by a popular artist and had mock album covers, which is what ended up on Emirates Airlines for whatever reason.

I just like how they claim they're saving the music from the travesty of the film...brilliant. Very funny.

lol So they hide the belly so not to offend (who??) and feature a drag artist flipping the bird instead. I have vacationed with New Zealanders and they do actually show their bellies on the beach! I didn't know their preference for drag and finger ! confuse

What has it got to do with New Zealanders? This is in regards to Emirates Airlines which is the flag carrier for the United Arab Emirates. The only mention of New Zealand is due to where the op was travelling to.

Could it just be that they googled "Prince parade" to get the cover and took the drag queens one by mistake?

Possibly...although they would have had to look past a few pics to get to that one...if my search was anything to go by!

Maybe they think Emirates is in NZ. They've obviously never flown Emirates, its one of the best airlines imo. As for the weird pic, er yeah..its weird

Just a curiosity:

Had a lovely email back from Emirates saying they were upset they'd let this slip occur - and full investigation as to how this image ended up on their entertainment system is ongoing! They fully appreciated how people may be offended by the image they had used...perhaps we should give the performance group in question the caveat that they can now put "as endorsed by Emirates" on their flyers!

I asked if they would confirm the image has been changed...but I've not heard back.

If anyone is fliying on Emirates soon - please have a look. I'd be interested to know whether they'ed changed the Parade cover/how long it will take for them to change the cover.

Just a curiosity.
