To me I am hearing Db major as the key of the song

Edit: Yup it is definitely Db major, I am jamming along with it on guitar as we speak

Ok, so maybe we're listening to different versions, or perhaps your guitar was tuned down a 1/2 step, but the verision on Youtube I found in in D.

The vocal melody goes F#-E-E-F#-G-F#-D-E

Like a G flat major with an E in the Bass

Uhm, the Crystal Ball version seems to be in Db major ("5 flats").

At least that's what I got when playing the melody on top of the song on keyboards by ear (using an organ sound). The melody resolves to Db during the verses and also the end of the chorus suggests it (the chorus actually resolves on a chord played on various instruments and it's not the end of a vocal part) . There seems to be the occasional chromatic note in there too. The section right before the chorus ("CRUUCIAL!") has the same type of a "modulating" feel to it as on "Adore" (maybe I'll look into that later)

I know the bootleg versions have playback speed issues, so that's going to alter key (although not in a way that all of the notes would land on the correct keys, as some notes would imost likely fall "between" other notes on an equal tempered scale).

Maybe the playback speed of the officially released version has been sped up a bit too? The vocals could have a bit of the "Camille" thing going on, at least.

Yep. I pulled out the Crystal Ball cd and it is in Db. The youtube version I listened to was a 1/2 step higher in D.
