I guess Bruno is going to have to bear all the nastiness Prince used to get now.

I thought Bruno did good, but the purple and the ruffles looked too hokey.
I think he coulda done a fine tribute if he wore some kind of purple outfit,
but what he had on was just a cheap imitation of the Kid's Kostume.

I don't think Prince would have been happy about the imitation either lol

Isn't it strange, shade even, for the camera to never cut to Tyka during the tribute but instead keep showing the host, Bey, etc. I was watching to see her reaction to 7ven and/or Bruno. Odd that they did show her during the aborted part of the Michael tribute.

..in addition..the LATEST review..from THE MEDIA

"As for Bruno Mars donning a ruffled, purple, spangled Prince suit to perform "Let's Go Crazy"? Well,it was sincere but it also made me squirm a little:Homage is one thing, but dressing up like Prince when you really can't replicate his guitar work is a bit much."

Anyway I'm finding out there are a lot of Bruno Mars fans on social media. Saying anything even slightly negative about him is like knocking Queen Bae. eek

Call me cynical, but the whole thing was not so much a tribute, but drumming up interest for forthcoming purple rain release(s), why else would the Time be performing? Bullshit

sick of tributes & sick of moaning fans. Bruno..despite the outfit [!] did great IMHO. Let's all agree that no tribute will ever do him justice as there is truly nobody who comes close to Prince in charisma, or combines the skills of an instrumentalist, singer, song writer, performer etc as well as he did.

Best tribute is to support true artists & support the needy, friends & family without fanfare when able.

Because they know better? im guessing they would not really be into supporting Bruno, an artist in their own right doesn't impersonate or imitate another, no matter what. Deffo a Purple Rain publicity plan, with Bruno, 'the real modern day Time/mj/sugarhill gang/Prince' whanabe

I still can't get over how cheesy, uncreative and unartful the Grammy tribute was. Why not have a real creative musician/songwriter reinterpret his work? There is better stuff on Youtube.

Could you imagine Prince doing a tribute in such a cheesy way?

Think Purple House (Jimi Hendrix tribute) or Case of U (Joni tribute) or the beautiful and interesting Heroes/Dolphins Bowie mashup he did during the last concert of his life.

I finally got to watch on my DVR last night. I can say when he was trying to make the Prince "guitar playing faces" he failed. And I saw he tried to jump his guitar like P did a few times, he failed at that too. Nobody will ever stand up to P, but he made an effort.

ETA: Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike it. I think Bruno did the best he could.

Oh I didn't like his impersonating Prince at all. But if the Grammys were going for a Purple Rain theme (yes barf worthy) why not have The Time do a song and then bring out The Revolution to do Let's Go Crazy and Baby I'm a Star. Even have Bruno as part of it just not dressed in Prince costume...

Amazing though it's hard to find a critical review. It's almost like a BeyoncΓ© thing; because he's Bruno Mars it can't be criticized. People had no problem ripping Madonna to shreds (and her performance was bad) but Bruno Mars is off limits? Give me a break.

Amen to that.

Adele seemed to get through her performance without having to wear the wham suit. Just very bad decision making from Bruno's management. He prob had no choice at all. But to dress up like Prince, play the cloud guitar, it is was just silly and disturbing all at the same time. Like they grabbed the dude while he was trick or treating and threw him on the stage.

I don't know. Morris and The Time are doing a free show here later this week at a casino.

You want a tribute? What about the Google ad featuring artists and regular people singing "Nothing Compares 2 U?" It was heartbreaking and breathtaking at the same time.
