If Bruno inspired one kid to listen to a Prince record...

which I believe he did, it was worth it.

I had fun with it.

Bruno knows he isn't Prince, but you could see that he really wanted to do his best to pay tribute. He put a lot of work into that.

All the post mortum award show tributes are done now, we can move on.

Ironically, The Time sang two songs not written by Prince and didn't include Jesse, the dude that wrote them.

That was my biggest issue. Not Bruno.

oh, the google commercial took it over the edge and tore up the heart.

Wish the grammy performance could have somehow ended with that concept of the google commercial... switched to non-stars, possible gems... even if on a screen.

Personally I thought The Time and Mars were fine, but it seemed too little... needed two more numbers? I dunno.

Makes me wish for Madonna. Seriously. She was crying as she sang.
Bah on this.

Seriously, that iPhone ad using NOTHING COMPARES TO YOU was better.
WAIT!!
We've just witnessed the first commercial licensing of P's music. Most people won't realize that, but if it's always done this well, it's OK.

Wow tough crowd. What exactly did people expect? Would have been better if it was all Prince songs though. I thought The Time medley was kinda lame.

Well I liked it. I enjoyed seeing The Time again, and thought Bruno did a good job.

This is why I keep saying that I don't like tributes. There's no point to 'em.I don't get excited about seeing other people sing Prince's songs.

That's why I said earlier, I think it would've been moving if they would've just put up clips of Prince and played his music over the sound system...in honor and respect for him...."cause ain't nobody can do it like P can!!!"

The Prince tribute would have been better if it had shown pictures of Prince or even a clip of Prince singing "Purple Rain" from the movie Purple Rain. It was a very nice tribute, though. I miss Prince.

Can't believe I walked away and missed the google commercial. This grammy stuff is a time investment. Would like to thank the academy, wine and world of solitaire for this amazing experience.

Look, I'll take it. BET still holds up as the best tribute, but I thank all involved for trying their best. I'm sure no one here thought Bruno was gonna live up to Prince anyway, and neither did he I'm sure. Nice try Bruno. Thank you. The Time also gave it a nice try. I won't complain about their song choice too much, although I would have preferred songs Prince sang. That Google commercial though... They knew how to get us! heart

Except we all know they were never going to do that. It's pretty much what I expected. And even though I wasn't crazy about The Time's performance it could have been a lot worse. I wish they wouldn't have cut up the intro to LGC though. Just play The Who;e thing.

Well, it's over now. I thought Bruno did an excellant job. Can't imagine the pressure he was under to get it right. I think he had Prince's guitar as it was too small for him. I thought the Time did alright. I hate it when the music is done like a Las Vegas act tho, like a medley, ya know? I have to say that I was alright until the Google commercial- that brought out the water works- just seeing all thos ordinary people singing Prince's song. Google done right, baby!! Hope they show it more.

For me the worst thing about the tribute is it was one song. If they allotted enough time for 3 songs it should have been three Prince songs, not two songs by The Time because Bruno Mars was influenced by them. This was a Prince tribute for godssake!

I saw a pic of Bruno. Did this this muthf--cka really dress up like Purple Rain era Prince and played a knockoff cloud guitar? Seriously?! If P was alive, he would've cringed and gave him that same side eye he gave to Trey Songz for butchering Purple Rain. Do these new artists have any artistic integrity? Do you think Prince would've wore a James Brown wig in a tribute? Hell no. When Prince wrote that letter to Bruno and said be your own hero, he meant do your own thing and blaze a new trail. Obviously, Bruno didn't listen.

I'm with you 100% on this. He is a hack.

This is not good. It's he really playing the guitar and was that Prince's cloud? Fake Prince moves. The best part was using P's own intro.

That's not the Prince cloud guitar, thank god!! If you notice on the headstock it says Schecter.

As you can see on the org as usual. Folks that speak too soon and don't know what the f**k they even talkin' about before they see the performance. Bruno KILLED IT! Now Prince would've liked that performance of Let's Go Crazy of instead Janelle Monae. That DAMN guitar solo! Bruno you did that!

Did I say anything about the performance? I'm talking about that image of him in a knockoff Purple Rain costume and cloud guitar. Did Adele come out in a pompadour and five o'clock shadow to pay tribute to George Michael?
