My mood-lifter is forever 'The Ballad of Dorothy Parker'. I cannot help but smile when he sings "Cool, but I'm leaving my pants on...(she say)...'cause I'm kinda going with someone."

Changes all the time, but lately it's been the live 2014 Manchester version of Something in the Water or the live version of Blues in C (If I Had a Harem).

I love watching him play. It's one of the reasons I want live audio versions of his music. If I do Youtube, I stop what I'm doing to watch him, which is wonderful. But I need live music I can just listen to and not be wonderfully distracted by. Because if it's a video, I will find my way to the screen to watch.

But, anyway, he's so joyful in both performances that it makes me smile.

Thanks everyone for your input! Seems there are some common threads here. heart

To Mountains, I'll add:

I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (puts a huge smile on my face)

Free

Let's Go Crazy obviously

Raspberry Beret (also puts a huge smile on my face)

It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night

Baby I'm a Star

Partyman

I definitely love the positive vibes of Mountains, Baby I'm a Star, and Free. Raspberry Beret puts a smile on my face because it makes me laugh, especially the line "And if it was warm she didn't wear much more."

--

My go-to Prince songs when I need my spirits lifted are:

- Mountains

- The Love We Make

- Diamonds and Pearls (It's one of my favorites.)

- Starfish and Coffee

- Kiss (It makes me wanna get up and dance and it's the first Prince song that I really loved!)

--

I also really like these songs and find them uplifting because of the spiritual themes:

- God

- The Cross

- I Would Die 4 U

Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

There are soooo many uplifting Prince songs...it´s impossible for me to give you a full list....but these are just a few off the top of my head that have helped me through some really dark times:

1. Strays of the World....one of my favorite songs and such an underrated gem. This should have been the closing song on the Come album like it was originally planned to be. Whenever you feel lonely or lost and need a boost, just crank up the volume on your headphones and listen to this masterpiece. Morris Hayes loved this song when he first heard Prince´s solo version, and I love it, too. Most fans love to diss it and think it´s similar to Three Chains of Gold but I strongly disagree.

-

2. Anna Stesia ...... I think this one needs no explanation. I´m sure that this song has saved many lives, and I think Prince knew it, too.

.

3. Free... I have always loved this song and always will. There are a few lines in it that I listen to rather skeptically, but still.....I love this song !

.

4. Power Fantastic. Works a bit like Anna Stesia to me, and deals with loneliness, too, albeit differently. I wish he had played this song a bit more often. One of the few times he did play it was at Paisley Park in 2002. I was there but Matt and I and Ben (the prince.org founder) and basically all fans were told to go outside due to an AC malfunction, and when we were let in again he had already finished playing the song. To this day, I still regret not having heard it in full. Some of my all time favorite lyrics.

-

5.The Sacrifice of Victor. This song gave me a positivity boost in 1992. Great lyrics. I love how he wrote a biographical, uplifting, motivational song and gave us a little history lesson at the same time. This song has a special place in my heart, and as the years go by, I appreciate it even more.

.

6. Everywhere. I know that TRC gets a lot of flak because of some of the controversial lyrics but this is one of the most uplifting songs of the past 16 years. Sure, the lines about "the truth" are controversial but the high energy, uplifting mood, great intro and superb drumming by John Blackwell and sheer joy cannot be denied. I love this song !

.

7. Something in the Water, ( instrumental rehearsal Miami 1985, Purple Rain tour finale)

I love this song in all its various incarnations, from album version to the many drastically different sounding versions he played over the years during different shows but this instrumental version sometimes literally brings tears to my eyes as soon as the guitar solos begin. Many regard the "Small Club" Just My Imagination guitar solo as one of his best and most touching, others think the RRHOF solo during While My Guitar Gently Weeps was the best ever (though I am honestly not that much of a fan of that one) , and some others would say Joy in Repetition but for me, the guitar solos in this rehearsal version are like an instant mood lifter, an instant anti-depressant. I am not a guitarist and don´t really know anything about technique, nor do I have any idea if this solo was technically great, and yes, maybe his guitar skills were much more refined and better in his later years but this version is the epitome of what I love about Prince as a guitarist. This is a quintessential Prince guitar solo to me. It´s so uplifting and yet so bittersweet.

This version is like a drug, like medicine, like aural happiness.

People of the world, go and listen to this version. You will see what I mean once you´ve listened to it. But beware.....you´ll get addicted to it. Have I already told you how much I love this version?

.

8. Let´s Go Crazy I think this one is self-explanatory. wink

.

.

.

This was just off the top of my head. There are dozens and dozens of other uplifting Prince songs.

And for that, I will be eternally grateful.

I miss Prince´s presence on this planet. Our healer is gone.

Damn this is literally my list of go-to songs, with "Strays Of The World" being the definitive #1. I never did understand why it didnt' get more love from Prince fans given that it was, and, the only way I listen to it is through headhones. Otherwise it just wouldn't sound correct from run-of-the-mill speakers. it has to be cranked to 11.

"Everywhere" is another song that I can listen to over and over when I need a spritiual lift, but I would add "Last December" because you can't listen to it and not wonder what you're doing with your life, and getting up to to more. "Last December" is the salve I use when feeling down about Prince not being here anymore, because it perfectly highlights that he did what he was put on this earth to do; provide a message through his music.

It´s so good to know that I am not the only person on the org who loves "Strays of the World". It is such a great song, isn´t it?

And you are totally right about Last December. The funny thing is that I was constantly thinking about how it definitely needs to be on my list of uplifting songs, and then , while typing, I completely forgot to mention Last December. Another great and uplifting gem.

These kind of songs are healing, uplifting, spiritual songs, and Prince touched many hearts with these songs.

I wish more people would remember him for the healing powers of his music and his live shows. I miss that energy boost his presence always gave me.

Gotta go with Good Love. Especially the "Good Love part 2" shouts in the soundtrack version.

I think P is saying some French, there. I always understood P to say "Good Love...partout".

Partout is French for "everywhere".

Had never listened to it as a French lyric before. I'll listen again. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
