They had a lot of respect for each other, absolutely senseless to compare the two here.

By the way, if I recall correctly, George was at the Tränenpalast show in 1994 after the MTV Music Awards. My memories are a bit blurry but I think I saw Prince walking up the stairs toward George back then and they talked briefly.

Jean Paul Gaultier and Naomi Campbell were standing right next to me, and German singer Herbert Grönemeyer was right behind me.

Seriously, let both people rest in peace. I don´t like these comparisons.

I do find it odd, and a little disturbing, that some Prince fans seem to think Prince is the only artist on the planet.

This may come as a shock to those people - he isn't.

There are jazz artists, pop artists, rock artists, folk artists, death metal artists etc etc etc.

I hope these Prince fans are sitting down as I'm here to tell you Prince didn't invent the guitar! I know, this is quite a shock isn't it. Oddly, Prince didn't invent the music video, nor did he invent 5.1 suround sound.

Did you also know you are actually allowed to like more than one artist?

I wish you well in your recovery - I hope this wasn't too much of a shock!

Prince's death was MUCH better than George Michael's.

There are many parallels between Prince and George.

George was clearly influenced by Prince, with his first solo album borrowing heavily from Prince's work; from the 'sex sells' approach, the use of Jam and Lewis for an MPLS sound, through to 'Camille' vocal changes (Georges 'Hard Day').

Equally, George was the first major artist to publically rebel against his label and Prince followed the approach 3/4 years later.

It's clear from comments on both sides there was a mutual respect, at least as artists.

Any particular reason? The title sounds a little disrespectful, but the content makes it clears about the parallels and respect of both artists.

I'm a huge GM fan, and I like the fact that people are discussing both of them in the same context.

With the help of the previous post, I was trying to point out how ridiculous these threads become when the orgers feel the need to start making comparisons.

While browsing the news I found this new article on some website and it has a link to prince.org.

It´s weird...this is not the first time I find a prince.org link in some article.

None as far as I know. But they did remix "Monkey" for the maxi-single release in 1988.

Agree. Prince publicly supported George Michael in his fight with Sony...one of very few artists who did. And he stated they routinely talked about the business.

But back to the point, don't take that quote out of context. It wasn't a public statement from Prince. Prince's press agent was leaving him temporarily for George Michael and Prince was offended . So he fired off that comment. You could have replaced 'George Michael" with any name and it would have probably been followed with "ain't shit" at that moment. That agent is kind of dick for even offering up that anecdote--he should have at least left out GM's name in the anecdote.

Prince was human. He didn't pretend to be a saint.

Besides being a lame comment, it may not be true as there are rumors he had heroin issues the past couple years. He just wasn't found in an elevator. The way he was found...Idk, possible accidental or even deliberate OD

George Michael’s ’90s Publicist Remembers Getting ‘Too Funky’ With the Pop Legend

When Michael Pagnotta became the late George Michael’s exclusive U.S. publicist in the early ’90s, George was the second client signed to Pagnotta’s own publicity business, Reach Media — the first being an equally iconic and enigmatic pop star who also passed away in 2016, Prince.

Pagnolli (or whatever his name is)might be the worst press agent ever. Is he not supposed to supply good press? Can't keep his mouth shut. First, he has Prince dissing George MIcheal (out of context obviously). Then, he has Michael dissing Prince (also probably taken out of context by some.). Dude can't keep conversations quiet once someone dies.

There were times when this was true. We all know this.

I always felt that if someone was considering writing songs that they should listen to "The Best of George Michael". He wrote perfect pop songs.

As far as I know, it was Elton John who said that, not George Michael. I have no idea why that quote was later attributed to George Michael.

people, his own fans here, talk so much shit about Prince but compare the dude against george michale and michael jackson, you can't, he was in a league of his own, ten times more prolific. while mj was being dragged to court (i really do believe that had to hurt his creativity) and gm was whipping it out in mens bathrooms, prince was working, he never let anything stop him, his dryest spell was what? 2010-2014, that's almost normal for the other guys and then he came back with three albums in the year and a half after that, with us not even having a clue to how close he was to death or what he may have been dealing with.

edit; four albums, i keep forgetting about plectrum electrum, prince roughly came out to an album a year so i guess his coming out with that many in a year and a half was just him keeping in habit with himself.

[Edited 12/9/16 17:47pm]

I hear ya Pete! Sarcastically, GM played keys, guitar, synths, drums, bass, etc. etc. also, right? razz lol

what i find surprising is that prince let the guy go for a few days, not the comment. I think action speaks louder than words here. Most stars of Prince's caliber, i don't think, would let someone jump ship to work with the competition for a few days and come back. I did mention how Elvis never took back a pianist who picked another artist over him when their tours were both happening at the same time. It never sounded like an ego thing particularly with Elvis, more like a business decision.

another interesting thing, Prince, at the time of the release for Rave, said in an interview that he wasn't that good of an editor. It think he used that behind the logic for putting "prince" when his name was still symbol in the producer slot. but just the fact that he mentioned it in any context is interesting.
