Prince and Mayte's Son

Does anyone know what the original due date of Prince's son was back in 1996?

I know that Mayte gave birth to Boy Gregory on October 16th 1996 but from what I understand she gave birth prematurely. I remember once reading that the child's due date was supposed to be December 8th 1996 but I can't remember where or when I read this. Can anyone clarify this for me.

Thanks for that. But I think that there was an interview conducted at Paisley Park on December 8th 2002 in which Prince mentioned that his son was supposed to be born on that date. I've never seen it but I've read about it.

a december due date would mean that the baby was premature by 6wks or more. mayte has said it was a "term pregnancy" which usually means within a few weeks of the expected due date. but i'm sure she will address this in her book.

As previous poster mentioned, Mayte stated the child's name during the LA memorial for friends of P after his passing. Boy Gregory is a filler name, as Mayte was checked into hospital as Mia Gregory (common practice for hospitals to attempt to protect privacy of media- sensitive patients, by using a replacement name from the same initials i.e. M.G. for Mayte Garcia). The death certificate lists that name because that is how the child is known in the hospital before a name is bestowed. It denotes a male child "Boy" born of mothers last name, given as "Gregory". That is not what the parents named him and I wish articles would stop reporting it as such.

Secondarily, Ahmir means 'prince' in Arabic, which is of course apropos. If you look back at some of Questlove's stories, he mentions that Prince relayed this meaning to him upon meeting him, because Quest's real first name is Ahmir. (could account for some the the affinty P seemed to have for Quest and why he would sometimes call on him to hang out, etc.)

Listen to me closely as the story unfolds
This could be the saddest story ever been told....

Since people are still confused about this.....

The child's name was Ahmir.

Mayte checked into the hospital under the assumed surname of Gregory to avoid press looking for "Garcia".

The child was male.

Hence, "Boy Gregory", Gregory being the noted surname.

Is there a reason why she suddenly announced that the child's name was Ahmir only after Prince passed?

That's what confuses me too. It's only being recently that the name Ahmir has been mentioned. For almost 20 years the child has been know as 'Boy Gregory'. Also, has anyone seen this interview supposidly conducted at Paisley Park on December 8th 2002? I've never seen it, only read about it somewhere.

I just don't believe her. I think she came up with the name after Prince passed.

There was also a lot of speculation about whether or not she was already pregnant when they got married.

I don't believe Ahmir as a name as in 1996 Prince would have chosen a Christian name.

Prior to Prince's passing I had bever heard about his son being called Ahmir. From what I've read prince wanted his child's name to begin with the letter G as it is the 7th letter of the alphabet.

There are some who have speculated that Mayte was pregnant when Prince proposed to her, but as they got engaged in November 1995, unless Mayte hasd the longest pregnancy in history she couldn't of already been pregnant.

I've read that by Septmber 1996 there were complications with her pregnancy and she was admitted to hospital several times before the doctors decided to induce labor to save the child.

There has been a lot of discussion on the topic over the years. I dont know if you did a search but I recall seeing a few links to articles from some of those old threads.

His fascination was with ancient Egypt, which the name Ahmir has nothing to do with.

I can believe that the baby's name was Ahmir because of the whole "Mayte is an Egyptian princess story" or whatever that Prince tried to pass off. Plus that was a time period that Prince never spoke about in depth either and I always wondered if Mayte was bound to some sort of confidentiality agreement. I may not be Mayte's biggest fan but I have always felt terrible for her because she had to try and keep it together for the camera after such a tragedy. You can never replace a child but I'm glad she's getting the chance to be a mom now.

Ahmir is arabic and Prince was fasinated with arabia. I doubt she is making this up and I am not a Mayte fan by any means.

Totally agree. She's always been so very elegant and to go through such a tragedy must be terrible.

Why is there even an argument on what the baby's name was? Mayte was his mother and she sure knows what they named their son.

Again, there was nothing Arabic about ANCIENT Egypt. Prince was NOT fascinated with Arabia. He was fascinated with the Egypt of the Pharoahs, particularly Akhenaton.

It's not an argument, its a discussion based on the OP asking a question. Even if she just named the child yesterday, she has every right to do so. shrug

Also, has anyone seen this interview supposidly conducted at Paisley Park on December 8th 2002? I've never seen it, only read about it somewhere.

That is most likely because Mayte signed a strick confidentiality agreement with Prince that she could not reveal certain things or she would be sued. She mentioned this in a magazine interview. Since Prince has died, that agreement, now becomes null and void.

I have no documentation that she signed one so I don't know if that's true or not legally but I was moreso referrng to the period when she did her reality show, when spoke at length about what happened.

Agreements, contracts and settlements do not become null and void when people die. If she had a confindentiality agreement in may have expired already she was trying to shop this book last year.
