Prince guitar lessons on Youtube

Years ago I posted a handful of Guitar "How To" videos for Prince songs. They weren't great - I had only been playing a year when I made them - but they were accurate and a lot of people seemed to enjoy them.

Controversy Music informed me I was in violation and the videos were removed.

I thought, "Well, I am playing his song in the background as I play over top in the initial play-through. Maybe if I remove that - certainly they can't be bothered by my take on his song."

Controversy Music informed me I was in violation and the videos were removed.

SO - things appear to be much more lenient these days. If I repost the vids do you think I will be shutdown again?

Songs included:

- Computer Blue (solo)

- The Question of U

- 5 Women

- Why you wanna treat me so bad?

- 7

The purple po po is surfing the net looking for stuff.......... so nothing has changed even after Prince's passing, they are back at doing what they do while he was alive.

Just do not post these on the org or you will get the org into legal hot water.

Thanks - yeah, I had no intention of posting links, just wanted to know if things have softened a bit regarding YouTube - looks like not. Too bad.

I´m so fed up with them trying to ban everything Prince related on the net, especially when it´s just someone covering his songs or giving useful instructions on how to play his music.

I see teenagers everyday wearing Nirvana and Beatles T-shirts, still buying legit releases, who have either no idea of who Prince is/was, or only know two or three songs by him.

The estate should come up with a better strategy than alienating his fans.

This is what gets me -

1. Even if I am playing over top of his track, how does this hurt them / sales? Nobody is going to listen to me in place of buying the track.

2. Ok, so if I lose on #1, how can they ban me playing what I thought I heard - without playing over his track? Having passionate fans spending hours learning his songs can ONLY HELP sales. No way can it hurt.

I totally understand you and agree with you.

If there´s one thing that they never fully "got", it´s how strict the Websheriff and Londell were and still are when it comes to Prince´s music on Youtube.

I mean, how are you going to reach younger audiences if you act like that?

On the other hand, it probably creates more demand if there is no kind of supply in the form of free concert videos on Youtube, no clips ,no songs, no nothing.

But...people like you teaching others how to play his music?

That´s a whole different situation.

And besides, if they can´t satisfy the demand for old, already released concerts or music, and the legit releases are out of print, then there´s a real danger of all those great concerts disappearing one day.

Younger generations deserve to know his whole body of work, and his amazing body of work definitely deserves to be saved for posterity.

Noodled24

Concert DVDs are worthless these days. It's just a fact. Even back in the day the primary value was that you could rip the pristine audio.

I could understand if they were taking things off YouTube and putting them on Netflix. But they're not, and while they're not doing that they're letting bootleggers sell xcellent quality unofficial albums in plain view.

What makes it sting, is them pushing out a release like 4Ever to pay for third parties to beat up fans. But just like when Prince was alive. Every takedown sent is an album unsold.
