There is a great article in the December 2016 issue of GQ -- "The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of the Artist Formerly Known as Prince." Lots of wonderful anecdotes from those who knew and worked with him. It shows how funny, generous and smart he was. I laughed and cried. It's one of the better articles I've read, since his passing. It reminds of how great he was/is and how much I continue to miss him.

Oh wow. I will have to get it, or try too.

It makes me really sad seeing that cover though. All the greats that were lost this year.

Just read the St. Paul articles. Enjoyed most of them. But having Tommy B and Gwen Leeds as their only personal interviews annoys me. The problem might be that the only people who will talk about P publically are those he was disassociated from. Hopefully with time those who knew him intimately (or not in a employee/employer relationship) or for more than 5-10 years might come forward and shed some light.

Tommy B kind of irritated me as well. I don't mind him saying that he wasn't sure Prince was really a 'friend' and that he found him unknowable. What I didn't like was that he assumed no one else really was close with Prince. He said anyone saying they were close to him was full of shit. Kind of presumptious of a guy who knew Prince for five years in the notorious 1990's. I am sure a lot of people in "purple army" thoughout the years might agree with Tommy. But to assume not one person who knew Prince was close to Prince is really unfair of him. Being a boss and a friend is a difficult and sometimes treacherous line to walk obviously. But did all people who knew Prince work for him?

Leeds quote about P having abandonment issues is probably right on the mark. But if Prince was so aloof how the hell would he know he had abandonment issues. Good guess, I guess..

By the way, there is a difference between being close to someone and truely understanding them. Prince dumped his band when Tommy was part of it. I don't think the dude understood why and so assumes Prince had indifference. Maybe he did, but maybe not.

Prince was a puzzle but I assume that people all know a part of who he was. Put the parts together and we will eventually get something close to a whole.

There is not much new in this article though that we have not already seen and/or heard. It's mostly stuff that was re-printed from other magazines/sources. Most of the quotes are more recent too so it's pretty obvious that nobody is going to say anything negative after his passing.
