Montreux 2009 Show 2

This show is the one. Of all the unreleased pro-shot shows out there, this is the one that should be released.

Perfect set-list. It's a big exercise in Prince showing off which is an absolute joy to watch. No bullshit, just excellent showmanship and even better guitar playing - to anyone in doubt, it shows that he is a fucking MUSIIICCAAAN and a half.

And, wasn't this scheduled for release at some point?

To me, this is Prince at his best. Show 1 aint' too shabby either and to me it is just as good as Show 2. Montreux 2013 also looks just as promising.

Apparently there are some contractual obligations that mean both Montreux and the estate need to find an agreement. Some insiders said it was in the works for a long while, and Prince himself announced the release in early 2013, then IDK what happened, but I'm pretty certain sooner or later Montreux will try to work out a deal with the estate for the 2009 and 2013 shows, and even maybe the 2007 one (reportedly, that last one's recording has sound issues and Prince was absolutely against releasing it).

It'd be just as shite as that ONA dvd that was released. The camera work in the second show is fucking crap. Instead of showing Prince playing guitar, let's plunge the viewer into almost complete darkness. It's a good show but is ruined by a shite director.

Just 2 words repeated 3 times:

  • Release It
  • Release It
  • Release It

1 for each show.

There's only two shows not three.

Can't be helped if a part of the show was in darkness... I think the video is great, it's one my favourite concerts to watch.

I'm counting night 3 from 2013, I was at that one and it was brilliant. I would just love to have that on DVD. Listening to the the 2 shows from 2009 make me so proud to be a Prince fan.

I love the first show and watch it all the time - but your post just gave me some inspiration to give Show #2 a try again.
Show #2 is much more rock-oriented and the footage is darker and grainier, but it's still Prince 💜

Edit to add: the 2nd show is great too; I guess I was ready for it.
It's true that it's filmed darker but not all of it.

He was impeccably dressed, his energy was amazing. A fawless, beautiful, shimmering performance!

And yet another testament that his brillance continued and even grew (in at least some of his live performances) throughout his career. An offical CD/Dwonload release and DVD/Streaming release would add to his legacy!
