On the evening of April 21st, the very same day Prince passed away, Elisa Fiorillo performed this as a tribute to Prince:

Elisa Fiorillo performs two songs live on The Arsenio Hall Show that were written & produced for her by Prince. They both recorded these two songs & others for her album.

In the video she is also interviewed by Arsenio Hall about meeting Prince:

Elisa was always a favorite of mine. She has just the sexiest voice ever. Her vocals on Love Machine are just smoking hot. Interesting how nice and proper she seems to be. I read somewhere that when she started working with Prince her family got really concerned until they both assured them that they were just good friends. I'm glad that they remained that way as I just love her contributions on his albums. One of his longest contributors.

She was/is very cute. I remember Who Found Who with Jellybean Benitez as her first UK hit, then I never could find her solo CD when she first collaborated with Prince. Mayte also recorded Love's No Fun of course on Child Of The Sun.

It was a cool moment when she re-joined the NPG as backing vocalist. She seems to have quite a bit more soul to her voice these days. cool

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I was so glad she was on the 20ten record. She always does solid work.

+ 1 MILLION (not to be a creep - but oh my god she is so incredible - cue my fanboy ridiculousness)

.

I should probably check out her solo albums. I'm familiar w/ her backing vocals on P records but probably have done her a disservice by not seeing what her own records are like.

Her album entitled "I Am" includes several Prince tracks.

Other Prince associated artists are also on that album such as Rosie Gaines, Sonny T., Levi, Ingrid Chavez, David Z., St. Paul, etc.

Elisa was also wonderful performing at the Official Prince Tribute, the BET Awards & at Sheila E.'s charity event.

All of her amazing tributes to Prince show how much she loved him.

Also, her rendition of "Sometimes in Snows in April" at the awesome Official Prince Tribute was deeply heartfelt.

Definitely going to check that out. I've wondered what it'd be like but didn't realize how many P associates were on there! Hell yes!

Unfortunately, she does not have a track on the 1-800-New-Funk album.

Perhaps you are referring to Margie (Margaret) Cox who was also the lead singer of the Jesse Johnson protege band Ta Mara & The Scene.

Here's the second single off that album that was written and produced by Prince for her and has many associated artists on it.

Rosie Gaines does background vocals, Levi Seacer is on bass, Michael Bland is on acoustic drums and Kirk Johnson (Kirky J.) is on electric drums.

Although, it sounds like a song with Prince playing all of the instruments...

Enjoy.

interview from july 1999

NEIL : While filming Graffiti Bridge, didn't you feel awkward miming to the vocals on "Love Machine", when the album credits them to Elisa? Given that you were playing the part of Prince's girlfriend in the movie, surely it would have made more sense to have featured a song or two of your own?

JILL : I did record the song too. However, for whatever reasons, either politically or emotionally, Prince made the decision to use Elisa Fiorello's voice.

Wow. That's interesting.
