Foretelling of what, exactly? He wasn't buried, he was cremated.

Oh, you mean dying. Because Prince never mentioned death before 1996, huh?

(Dead like Elvis) [sample repeated in song]
Check, check, 1 2, check
U know what he's sayin'?

Face down! [x2]

Somebody once told him that he wouldn't take Prince through the ringer
Let him go down as a washed up singer
Ain't that a bitch?
Thinkin' all along that he wanted 2 be rich
Never respected the root of all evil and he still don't 2 this day, huh
Bury him face down, let the motherfuckers kiss a ass, OK?

Not even the words so much...the video that shows him pretending to mourn at his funeral but then he lifts up the veil and it's really him pretending to mourn his own death. I don't think he faked his own death at all but the song and the video are just ..............

Shut up....I don't like to talk...

Try listening to some of the live 94 shows where he shouts and has the audience chant "Prince is dead" repeatedly. On one hand it's kind of haunting to hear, on the other, it's so Prince.

Obviously it was all in reference to the name change and WB. Even so it's still sounds blunt after recent events.

"Face Down" is far more retrospective than foretelling. It's more about the death of "Prince" - and those who only wanted to ride Prince's coat tails for a big payday ("never respected the root of all evil and he still don't go this day"). Prince is dead, 0(+> is alive. It was a new day in his artistic life, the death of Prince as a recording artist and commodity, not as a living person.

Thank you.

It's kind of weird to take it literally and characterize a video from twenty years ago as fortelling. If that was the case then all of us have foretold our death because we're all going there sooner or later and we've all made mention of it. hmm

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Exactly. Everyone thinks Prince was predicting his own death every time he mentioned dying. Every singer has mentioned that. Hell, I'm surprised someone has tried to tie in the blood moon with "Under The Cherry Moon" lyrics at this point.

prince was very anti-Prince during the 90s, and "Prince" was representative of a slave, whereas prince was a free man. People love money, especially in the record business. The love of money (not money itself) is the root of all evil. Even in 1998 with Mel B., prince mentioned those that just want part of the purple pie, opposed to doing something out of love or respect. He was tired of folks in his pockets. To me, I think he was finally getting in a place of truly understanding his history with fans, and how far he'd come. Yet he was still humbled by it because now he had idols like Graham and Chaka around him. It was a far headier and purposeful move on his part. But a fortune teller he was not.

If fans would do their homework, the "Prince is dead" chant happened a lot, and prince refused to play Prince music for the most part. Everything was from Come, The Gold Experience, Exodus, The Beautiful Experience, and "Peach", from that time. Oddly, he threw in "I Love U In Me" in The Ultimate Live Experience shows. prince was making a point about his situation, whether fans got it or not. And Doozer, you are spot on when saying it was retrospective, not foretelling. But, simpletons needs a conspiracy to occupy their massive downtime.

What do you think is more likely?

1) It's really just a song written 20 years before he died (everybody does)

2) There's some otherworldly prophecy in the creation of it?

So he died in the place he spent most of his time. Wow, what are the odds?!!

If anyone wants to find references to death, it's easy to do in a catalog as vast as Prince's. You could go back 34 years to All the Critics Love U in New York and claim that he fortold of a drug overdose - "gotta get another hit." What one infers and what was meant aren't guaranteed to be aligned.

Though of course we can reasonably discount any notion that 20 years ago, Prince knew anything about his death other than the fact of it's eventual inevitability.
