Prince in Concert: Ultimate Boxset

Hi everyone - way back in 2005, Alan Leeds gave a great interview. Amongst other things; he spoke of his desire for a live retrospective which would highlight what an exceptional performer Prince was. The performances chosen would be important concerts that were markers for Prince's evolving career.

Taking that into account, I was wondering what live performnces people would like to see collected together. Considering the fact that Prince has probably most, if not all of his performance stored in high quality in his vault, it probably negates the need to divide recordings into the more traditional audience vs soundboard heading one would typically use for bootlegs. I've gone with audio recordings although in some cases there are accompanying videos in circulation that could also be included.

Here are some suggestions from me to get things started:

Atlanta 80

The Ritz 81

First Avenue 83

Birthday concert 84

Syracuse 85

Detroit 86

First Avenue 87

Dortmund 88

Small Club 88

Tokyo 1990

Emporium 1995

Copenhagen 2002

Bataclan 2002

Montreux 2009 Both nights

Melkweg 2011 Night 2

Montreux 2013 Night 3

March 1983, Homecoming show in MN

I'm nixing Syracuse, or any PR show, unless the sound is better on it. Syracuse is so tinny and thin.

There are better Parade shows than Detroit, and some have "A Love Bizarre" or "The Dance Electric" in the medley. It's a toss-up which one would be best for a set. Same goes for Lovesexy Tour - there might be other dates that were better.

There's a Brussels aftershow during the Gold era that should be in it. Also, any show from The Ultimate Live Experience is a must-have.

Yeah, I forgot about Coachella.

I agree about the Ultimate Live Experience stuff - that version of the NPG was so tight. I've only recently started getting back into that era. You could tell that, although it was a difficult period, that the fight with Warners really lit a creative spark within him.
