Congratulations!!!

.

I think you should name your child something that means something important to you and it sounds like you do too. Good for you!

I have a cousin who named his son Axl. And a friend whose daughter was named Halen. Never a problem for anyone. So yeah, there is a precident. And I wouldn't be surprised if there are several Princes in the kindergarten class of 2021.

I dont have a problem what others want to do, but I personally would never name a child after a celebrity - and especially one with the name Prince - because they are stuck with this the rest of their lives and what if they dont like the person they are named after? It is different if you name after a family member as there is a blood tie there.....but that is just how I feel about it. Naming a baby is such a personal thing and one both parents must love and agree on that name.

I love Prince's name and is sure fit him perfectly, but I would hate to see it become a common name. Imagine some fat red headed freckly horrible kid who liked to rip the wings of flies named Prince !!! (cringe). I guess it is like how many have named their kids Madonna - instantly you think "oh the parents must be Madonna fans" so it is kind of lost there.....

Not really explaining this well, but I hope you get what I mean.

PS and I kind of think the fact you have asked the question to start with you are not really confident in the choice? I do like the list of alternative names for Prince though - they are great.

Okay, well...I invite you to think what the reaction would have been had you said "a nappy-headed fat horrible black kid" or a "kinky-haired fat horrible Jewish kid."

Congrats.

I don´t like the name Ahmir and I think Prince maybe would be too much. But I would definitely consider June or Nate (if it´s a boy smile)

Actually, I love the character. He's just an outcast abandoned by his father and not really his mom's interest. My teeth also resemble his biggrin

Nelson is a great first name--I would definitely choose that one as a tribute to Prince. My son's best friend when he was in junior high school was named Nelson.

Funny this came up. I'm a transgender woman who came out shortly after Prince's visit to Sydney in February. I sort of can't believe my luck that he came here, and I've talked about the amazing experience I had on the org before. Long story short, his show brought my long-repressed identity to the surface. I cried for a month and changed my first name to Joni. Then Prince died and I decided I would take Nelson as my middle name as well. I really liked the idea of carrying on his legacy through my own identity, especially as genderfluidity was such an important part of his work.

Someone said that it made them think of Nelson from the Simpsons. Well, my favourite Nelson moment was when he went to the Andy Williams concert and he just melted. It turned out that he was a total sweetheart and he cried watching "Moon River." He's had a rough life and puts on his masculinity just for show; the music brought out his true self. I really like that scene and I sort of love Nelson, so I don't mind that association either.
