Meh. It seems like anything the estate does is going to be frowned upon here. neutral

Not at all, Rogifan. I'm very much on board with PP being open to his fans, just not with this food experience thingy.

Well..., call me crazy because I'm interested. Yep, interested in what he smelled like, the incense and candles he used at PP, the food he ate and the books he read. If they have a gift shop with trinkets, candles, vegan cookies, knick-knacks that read "made in China" with the symbol embossed on it; I'm buying it. So I guess the estate can count on me...yes, I know I need to get a life.

You see, it's a matter of how you look at things, imo. I'm also interested in the books he read, the films he watched, the food he ate, what daily mundane things interested him, etc. However, I see this food experience thing as marketed as kind of a theme park amusement, a gimmick. It's hard to explain. Maybe I'm alone in this. It's all good.

I guess I just don't understand. Because they're calling it an "experience"? Because it's a tasting course packaged together? If they just had a menu with individual items he liked that one could purchase would that be ok? Or should they not sell any food similar to what had been prepared for him in the past? Personally I would rather spend money on something like this than a trinket from a gift shop.

Let us not forget, Prince ( oddly ) left a clear vision of how the museum was to operate and what is was to offer several months before he died. This could very well have been part of it.

It's the way it was sold. "Come and try what Prince used to eat" as opposed to having a vegetarian menu that included some of his favourite meals. Do you see the difference? Hell, maybe I'm just being picky. Like i said before, it's all good.

As for this being part of the plan Prince had for PP, i find it hard to believe he would market it that way, but that's just me.

What vision did he leave, with whom, and what or where is it? Was this vision in writing, did he speak about it on video, specifically tell it to someone.....???? I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I would really like to know, because I keep seeing posts where people say that "this is what Prince wanted" and like you, that "he left a clear vision of how the museum was to operate" but I have never seen anything myself or saw anything from Prince about this.

I think its awesome! Bring on the Paisley Park Cookbook! I love trying foods Prince loved and smelling smells he loved too - if the estate needs to make some money to keep the doors open then so be it.

SquirrelMeat said: So they can sell folks food he liked as long as they don't package it as an experience? confused

What I mean is, I have no problem with them making the on-site catering vegegatian out of respect to the artist who had such strong views on this matter, but I find it tacky to start packaging it up the way they are.

Couple that with, 'buy the tote bag' and "buy the Tee', based on 'I've been to Paisley Park' rather than Prince and his music, I simply find a little cheap.

I get that they want/need to make money, and that some folks will have no problem with the approach, but I've been to Graceland and its incredibly comercial, tacky and cheap.

I think Americans will broadly be ok with it, as they are conditioned to everything so exteme in commercial terms (eg "You been on the ride, now buy the tee/keyring/photo/etc), I just find it sad.

Its like an extension of the 'Offical Memorial'. The only 'Official' gig would have Prince's blessing, and he didn't plan one. Now its become a mess off acts, that seem to be cashing in on Prince's death, with agents and promoters syphoning tickets off to the blackmarket etc.

I think that approach would be the polar opposite to what Prince would want to see.

When I view places like the Van Gogh Muesum or Even the Hendrix appartment, its a different level of respect.

Agreed

P himself wanted it to be a museum and place for other artist to record.

How else would they pay all the bills and taxes?

Keeping such a huge building/property open cost a lot of money and P himself can't pay these bills and taxes....

That wall is maybe 0,0000000000000000000001 of the costs to keep PP open and running wink I Know because I'm in this business for work.

Regular Museums have (extra) security.

So some extra security must be available with all the strange NON-Monnesota folks coming to PP when it's a Museum.

You know there are people with less good intentions, there are a lot of real expensive items @ PP. (most of them priceless.....)

hONESTLY, I feel the entire concept of a museum is a horrible waste of PP.

I would rather see it become an extension of Prince's beliefs for the rights of artists.

I think it should be a training ground and studio for artists who would like to OWN thiers.

I do hope some token of this remains in some way.

I've been going to PP events since the mid 90's.. Over 20... the celebrations in the early 2000's

an invite from the man himself ect...

I dont think Prince would want things to be the way they currently are..

Nor do i think he'd want his fans involved in an obvious Money Grab situation

set up by people with NO FUNK!

i think it will, but maybe that takes more time to set that up, andh they're just trying to keep it viable right now. articles have said they want it to be like Prince is alive and have people record and perform there hopefully next year. In the everevolving music industry, PP could be a beacon for artists to teach them Prince's music ownership philosophy, and i think it would be a nice exhibit in the museum part.

Just wanted to let u know that the Paisley Park Tours website has been updated and it now states that it's best to pre-order The Taste Experience ahead of time via their online store because it will be available in a limited way on a daily basis during the tours.

Hope this helps and enjoy!

Preparing PP for its opening as a multiple use facility - recording studios & museum involves a lot - conservation, security, accessibility, usage/programming, aesthetics/visitor experience... A museum will have some type of concessions and why not serve vegan/vegetarian fare? I'll try it and buy a cookbook. I've been interested in Prince's favorite dishes after I resd an article with him discussing his vegan lifestyle. They're using the Graceland company because that company turned elvis' estate around and made it highly profitable. PP will never be like graceland. Graceland is elvis and definitely not Prince. If they plan this right and add museum professionals into the mix, PP will be a great experience and become profitable and will be able to sustain itself. That's what we want, isn't it? That's what I want - a wonderful experience and tribute to Prince and a top notch creative environment for artists.
