Strange way of thinking confused

I think it´s a cool idea, the people who already worked for P can keep their jobs and PP can stay open en welcome the fans (P´s wish) wink

PP open and running cost money, so money must come in some how....

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion, P had to pay the PP bills before, now the fans will pay for PP to stay open.

The other option is to shut down PP and sell it....that´s not what P wanted!

So maybe you should think about that before being so negative about this.

Before they establish a full-service restaurant on site, they may want to see how much they sell in terms of a sampling offering.

I agree, it's a harmless way of testing what's feasible. Even if it only generates a small profit it all helps to run PP.

Ya, seriously, 'tasting' is a sampling menu - this is tacky. I hope to god its not some small paperplate with purple rain tacos and darling nikki bean dip....

A book, with recipes - though cheesy would be a better long term solution I think...

lol lol I'm a person that went to the Peoples Organic restaurant when I was in Minneapolis because I wanted to support and put my money where Prince put his.....it was delicious.

Well..., call me crazy because I'm interested. Yep, interested in what he smelled like, the incense and candles he used at PP, the food he ate and the books he read. If they have a gift shop with trinkets, candles, vegan cookies, knick-knacks that read "made in China" with the symbol embossed on it; I'm buying it. So I guess the estate can count on me...yes, I know I need to get a life.

I hope it is successful & could possibly develop into a non-profit restaurant/kitchen. I've read of some of the work being done in Minnie by local activists for the hungry & it would be great if this could somehow tie in with that. I think it would really serve to honor P.'s legacy. Also, after reading some of the other formus, it might be cool to offer Vegan Soul Food as many ppl seem to be clueless (esp. overseas) as to what home style American non-fast food is.

Hmm...I guess I don't find it creepy. I'd love to get a taste of dishes or foods he personally loved. And if they're coming from a chef who personally cooked for him all the better. It's not like they're going to be serving it to you with the same plates and silverware he used to eat it on. I'd much rather pay for something like this than a Prince branded keychain or pen or whatever other stuff you'd find in gift shops at these places. I'm hoping they don't go overboard on that kind of stuff.

Um

Why not?

I think it's a good idea. Prince employed these people that still work at PP now it's opening to the public. He would have wanted his staff to be taken care of.. plus if it opens people's eyes to the world of vegiterianism then good. I don't think he would have had a problem with it. He had a good humour about his food too and as well as a musician was good business man. Im sure he wouldn't want to see PP closed. His spirit is alive there and if making money keeps it going then good.

The only thing I would like is to be able to order merchandise directly from the website. Which I can't do as I've not been able to buy my ticket to visit PO yet.

Graceland who is in charge of the touring of PP is looking for ways to make money. That is their only reason for being there or doing any of this. If they think people are going to wanna taste the food Prince ate cooked by his personal chef then they are on it. They are fronting the money apparently as I read to get PP ready for tours and get it started. Plus if they and in turn the estate can't make money any way they can to keep PP operating and pay taxes then it would have to be sold. I'd rather see them make money how they can. To be honest, they will prob add more and more to the tours to attract visitors. After a while, the tours will slow and they will have to do more to attract people to come back. He kept all his stage clothing since he started I read somewhere so there is so much they can continue to add. They can start to bring out things from his personal living area to be viewed and eventually if the tours are slow and they need to they may even open his private living quarters; nothing would surprise me. Unless the family is adamant that it not be done.

What I mean is, I have no problem with them making the on-site catering vegegatian out of respect to the artist who had such strong views on this matter, but I find it tacky to start packaging it up the way they are.

Couple that with, 'buy the tote bag' and "buy the Tee', based on 'I've been to Paisley Park' rather than Prince and his music, I simply find a little cheap.

I get that they want/need to make money, and that some folks will have no problem with the approach, but I've been to Graceland and its incredibly comercial, tacky and cheap.

I think Americans will broadly be ok with it, as they are conditioned to everything so exteme in commercial terms (eg "You been on the ride, now buy the tee/keyring/photo/etc), I just find it sad.

Its like an extension of the 'Offical Memorial'. The only 'Official' gig would have Prince's blessing, and he didn't plan one. Now its become a mess off acts, that seem to be cashing in on Prince's death, with agents and promoters syphoning tickets off to the blackmarket etc.

I think that approach would be the polar opposite to what Prince would want to see.

When I view places like the Van Gogh Muesum or Even the Hendrix appartment, its a different level of respect.

I would have to go with SquirrelMeat on this, it's not a theme park selling gimmicks. Let's hope it doesn't turn into one anyway.

Like it or not, Prince's diet has always been a topic. This idea could have very well came more from outside interest than the inside. Oprah talked about his diet, Arenio also, just to name a couple. We've talked about it... A LOT. Seems to me there would be more people here who would be interested in it, lol.
