I contributed to this thread, so guilty as charged to begin with.

But all I see in here are interpretations and allegations because NO ONE was actually there to witness it. All I see is personal interpretations about things written in the media like you were there and witnessed it all. Reading an article or watching tv doesn't make you a connaisseur.

It's almost pathetic to see how certain people in here still try to get into his bedroom. The man is dead. Period.
No one's spoken to him personally, so nobody knew him. So nobody can interpret what was serious, what was just fooling around and what was upholding his image.

And for those having issues with P's attitude and waving the bannner of women's liberation and/or emancipation. Stop being on the barricades. You're in the wrong online community and certainly on the weong message board. You will see once you reach intellectual maturity.

Oh, really? Well I didn't have the slightest interest in getting into his bedroom as it was a bit crowded already. And just because a woman (myself included) would find it a turn off that any man was having sex with multiple partners over the same time period is hardly "pathetic". Dont get preachy. The whole anonymous message board aggression tactic like your remark about intellectual maturity is so tiresome.

It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

This. I believe that this is likely very true and yet many of us think we will be "the one" who will change that. It's happened over and over forever it seems, not just with Prince but people everywhere. Prince grew up when I did...we dated people, played the field, not with just one but as many as we wanted to date. Nowadays, people think they have to tie each other up in a "relationship" after the first date! Ridiculous, my dating days were just wonderful, I loved going out and having a good time with different guys, there was always something exciting to look forward to because they were all different from each other. I wouldn't change any of that for anything! I'd be bored to death if I was in my late teens, 20's, maybe into 30's now. Oh, you looked at me????? Okay, now you're MINE and you can't see anyone else!!!!!! shake lol

Also, to me 'Rainbow Children' is one of his most revolutionary moves. Truly, game changing music. But don't listen too closely to the lyrics - which, poetry aside, are repugnant. I remember Alan Leeds wrote an on point article about this at the time. Anyone got a link?

Just tried to listen to it today. Absolutely beautiful musical compositions. Could not take the 'spooky voice' at all. What makes it even harder is that he bled that voice into songs I'd LOVE to put into my own personal compilations. Can't get past it. confused

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

I have no problem at all with the voice over stuff. It's the content behind the poetry, which is sexist and narrow minded. Beneath him.

I didn't care for the way he treated the women in his life. If the book Possessed is correct he treated Susannah Melvoin horribly. Just pretty much a male slut with no concern for the pain he caused others.

.

It's not his fault he was so attractive and women wanted him so badly. I have a feeling he was pretty straightforward about wanting sex from these women but they heard what they wanted to hear and then blamed him for their hurt. This isn't exactly a rare situation with successful men and unbalanced, desperate women.

Which one aspect of P turned you off most? or at times?

For me, I loved the balance of spirituality & sexuality. But when 1 side won, dogmatically so, it became a problem for me. Examples:

-The misoganistic lyrics in an otherwise great album -'The Rainbow Children'.

-The claims that he requested Wendy & Lisa to publicly renounce their lesbianism if they wanted to play with him again.

-When he said in a Guardian interview that maybe Shariah law wouldn't be a bad thing because you'd always know where you stood.

You?

..Hello, who is it?

His homophobia and lack of acceptance twoards gay and lesbian fans. This ties in too with his adherence to extreme evangelical Christianity (Hate and money church dogma).

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

A few years ago I would have said something similar but now I'm not so sure he was homophobic. There were a few songs he did that could be seen as being quite open minded with regards the sexualitiy of others, even in his later life. Listen to the lyrics of Live Out Loud. Obviously, like a lot of Prince songs, they're open to interpretation but I don't think they came from a homophobe. Likewise, his affiliation with Janelle Monae, who must be at least bi. He was also very friendly towards Ellen when he was on her show. If he was truly homophobic, he wouldn't have done these things.

Back in the day I have to say I kinda agreed with the reporters view about him being so evasive:

StopIt

The man was not properly exposed to suitable women.

He deserved better, and they were out there.

But not within reach of his class of handlers.

SUCKS.
