4 those of U with non-Prince fan partners

Every now and then I see people express moments of joy here when they seem to briefly "get through" to their non-fan significant others. I remember ages ago someone being over the moon when their wife briefly mentioned that Parade is a good album. There was someone else recently who had their partner say "Wow" during Prince's version of "Four" and they were happy about that too. Let's share those moments here. They're minor but can very significant. Sometimes they come from surprising sources, too. Mine was recently-- My boyfriend was singing along faintly to "Fallinlove2nite" and later commented that it was a catchy song. He has pretty much been subjected to the entire released Prince album discography and has remained basically silent through it all. This is the first positive thing he has said. Why that song out of everything!?! I'll never understand these non-purple people....

God that's a difficult one. I've been with my boyfriend/partner (am I too old to still call him a boyfriend) for 15 years and it's so rare to even get a comment or an opposite to a negative response about Prince.

Occasions I can think of are...

1. Have you heard the new Prince song Fallinlove2nite?

2. Sings along to Gold if it's on.

3. Agreed to come to the Piano & Microphone tour when it was due to be in London a year ago.

4. Listens to Prince songs sung by other artists.

5. Watched Purple Rain with me 1 week before Prince died.

6. He liked the beginning of The Breakdown & She Gave Her Angels until the instruments came in.

7. Happily listens to The Truth album if its on.

I've come to believe that he likes the quieter, more ballady type of music.

I get more negative responses than anything and it pisses me right off!!

And there's me happily listening to Bette Midler, Carpenters, Reba McEntyre, Dixie Chicks and Elton John (I'll give him Elton) with him.

After 6 years together, I was finally able to convince my girlfriend to sit down and watch Purple Rain for the VERY FIRST TIME EVER.

She was very resistant, but mostly wanted to get it over with.

She ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! (She hated the Morris & Jerome "Say What?" part though).

She nearly teared up during the Purple Rain performance part.

I was surprised. The most I was hoping for was a "OK, that was wasn't bad."

A few weeks later I tried to put on the Sign O The Times concert film. she watched about 3 minutes of it and was then texting and facebooking on her phone. sad
