The Question Of U (Unreleased Single)

Eventually replaced by the release of Thieves In The Temple, how do you think this would have faired as a single from Graffiti Bridge? What would have been the most appropriate B-Side?

I had no idea it wasn't a single. eek

Alot of people is saying this might be his best song of the 90's. Wierd then that this wasn't released as a single back in 1990.

Coming straight after the Nude Tour, where it was performed, it might have done well. The first simgles from his albums were usually the biggest hits.

"Thieves in the Temple" is a great single. "The Question of U" is my favorite song from Graffiti Bridge, but I'm not sure it would have been a smash single.

I wonder if a sleeve design for this was mocked up...

Absolutely love this song. I think it is way too sophisticated for commercial radio. They would probably truncated the guitar solo at the end to only a few seconds, which would ruin a key part.

The issue is more that there's only one verse and chorus.

He should have released "New Power Generation" as a single, which is a weak song and didn't do well on the charts. "The Question of U" is a much stronger song and would have been a hit, even with it's unusual song structure.

Like the sentiment but I think you are I over-estimating the radio programmers and the public.

thumbs up! cool

As to the opinions regarding New Power Generation as a single, it may not have been the best choice but Side B of the 12" makes it worth it. Love that single (really I consider it an EP) and wish we got the full length double 12" that was planned. Those tracks are golden. wink

Yeah, I'll add to those who love the NPG EP. "Loveleft, Loveright" is my favorite song Prince released from 1989-1991.
