Songs covered by Prince you don't like.

Has anyone heard a song covered by Prince that you didn't like? I just heard one. Betcha By Golly Wow by the Stylics. It's a beautiful song but for some reason Prince does all these weird voice fluctuations that ruined it. You can google it and hear it for yourself. I believe it's on the Emancipation album.

I actually love Princes version myself. It is such a gorgeous song and I miss the days of the romantic songs. I grew up with my mum's Platters records and songs like that - so beautiful.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Thanks gollygirl, I appreciate your perspective on it. I loved the music from when I was growing up in the 70s. I too miss those romantic songs. For some reason I was just really disappointed when I heard his version. But ... there are so many other songs of his I like ... so .. biggrin

I just heard a cover of Elvis's All Shook Up from a concert. (Montreux Jazz Festival, maybe?). I didn't hate it, but it provoked no reaction from me, which was a new experience from Prince's music! My mom was a big Elvis fan, and I grew up listening to a lot of Elvis too. I just think that the King outdid Prince on this one. wink

On the other hand, his cover of I Can't Make You Love Me took a song that didn't do much for me and really made me fall in love with it.

I never really understood why he performed "Play That Funky Music White Boy" so often.

he does that several styles iirc. there are versions of it that i care nothing for,
and then there are times he performs it and it's just amazing.

You should hear it without Larry Graham's "EVERYDAY" chant.

Everyday Is a Winding Road for me too. not that I thought much about Prince's treatment of it or have anyting negative to say about that, I just really don't like the song

I love Sly & the Family Stone, but I admit it got a bit boring after a while. Whenever Larry hit the stage, you knew you were not going to hear any Prince songs for at least the next twenty minutes. I could also live happily without P ever having done a Michael Jackson cover, but if he was going to do one, then let it be Don' Stop Till You Get Enough, one of the few Jackson songs I find listenable. But overall, I like the same music as Prince liked, so I'm okay with it. I just can't stand Radiohead, so I don't think I ever bothered listening to P's version of Creep.

I love Prince's version of Betcha by Golly Wow. I remember when it was out. I loved it. Of course I like the original but I think that he did a great cover of the song. He also covered La La Means I Love You by The Delfonics. I don't like Prince's version as much as the original.
