I'm obsessed with [SONG]

I'm obsessed with I Lust U Always.

And it's been going on for three months at least. I hear it at night in my head, I hear it when I commute, I hear it when I'm having a business meeting and I'm hearing it right now (in my head).

I love it and then I hate it -- what is it with me? Or is it that it's such a great song? From the drum pattern that starts so startingly, calling you to attention... to the instrumental explosion, the initial verse ("Touch me at your own risk...") to all the musical excursions that follow.. The subtext of the song is questionable but it doesn't really come across as dangerous -- mostly because no one can imagine anyone with his height and voice being overpowering through anything other than a supremely persuasive personality.

So who else has got a Prince song stuck in his/her head and why? Spill the beans please.

Great song to be obsessed with, Aerogram. I have been listening to so much Prince these days that I almost have something in my head, whether consciously or not(all I have to do then is pay attention to my mind and it's like turning up the volume in my head to hear what is playing). Other times the volume is up high already, which can be problematic due to having so many responsibilities tied to listening to others when I just want to listen to Prince, cloud9 There are times when I hear something new to me from a concert recording such at the LRC mashup with Dirty Mind at the piano and mic shows, and it may stick with me constantly for several days. The part that my mind has on repeat might be just a cool phrasing, the chorus, or other times a bigger song segment. Other days I might go through 4 or 5 songs in my head. That's it. Hope you now know you have company in having Prince song obsessions biggrin

Similar experience here, I don't mean to say I think only about that one song, but it comes up often enough to bother me a little... deliciously though!

Another "go to" "head song" is Our Destiny, especially during the hours where I need to be determined and positive. I mean, the song is about this overpowering feeling that it "has to happen".

Which is the same deal as Lust U Always, come to think of it.

Ok, now I need a couch and a therapist smile

One of Your Tears from "The Truth" album. I just really got into it recently, started listening to some of his CDs all over again and this one caught me. Even though I had heard it before, I had never paid attention to it.

I am completely obsessed with The Question of U/The One/Falling medley on you tube. The artistry in the way he plays the guitar, his absolute confidence, his swagger, his raw emotion when he sings. It melts me. I've been listening to it over and over for months.

Either a Question of U, or Joy in Repetition with Najee and Renato Neto solos, I don't know what show it was from but it was Jazzy sounding. I just remember the guitar work was fantastic. I used to have a Vimeo link no video, just audio. Wish I could find again. Oh and Call my name and always always If I was your girlfriend😂.

I had to go look it up,as Question of U and The One are among my favorites, and man, I can see why you like it so much. Absolutely brilliant. If anyone of the ignorant masses expressed doubt about P's guitar prowess, I will refer them to this video.

Empty Room performance at Montreux 2009, obsessed with every bit of it.

I get mesmerized when looking at him perform that song, in that moment in time, it all just works.

I was crazy about Grand Progression since first hearing it in the early 90's, and when P passed, that was the FIRST song I thought about. That's one of the most sensitive and loving songs, and I appreciate it ever the more now. Then to find out the family played it at his funeral sent me in sad . There's so many songs to choose from, but for me, it will ALWAYS be Grand Progression.

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

One of the reasons he was so mesmerizing live is because that is WHO HE WAS. Pure Prince on stage, it is intoxicating to watch. It's like he is giving his whole self to the music and the music to us while he's performing. I've seen many, many concerts, with some of the greatest performers and musicians....some whom I know every note of every song they've ever written. And no one compares to Prince live. No one. I was lucky enough to see two Purple Rain tour shows about 8 rows back. He was just something divine on stage.

I guess another song I was obsessed with from the moment I had heard he died was "Nothing Compares 2 U" Because nothing does compare with him.

Another one is "I Would Die 4 U".....it hurt me so much to listen to it at first, tears would come every time but now I can hear it without crying.

And I've watched his performance of Head from the 1981 NYC show, along with his 1999 Motherless Child, literally dozens of times.

This a great idea for a thread. There have been so many songs through the years that I have been obessessed with. The most recent song is "Better With Time." I have to admit that I slept on this song for years, but it really floored me when I was listening to the album a few weeks back. It was the first time I heard it with headphones on, and it blew me away!! The silky smoothness of his voice, the message of the song (dedicated to Kristen Scott Thomas), and his vocals buidling at the end...just amazing!! I have been listening it to it multiple times a day, hear it in my head and sing along during the day, and I have been listening to it right before bed. I love the fact that there are so many of his songs that can hit you like that (on so many levels)...such a gift he left us...

I really like this song too!! The drum beat, the screams... I love the line where he says "my analyst assures me that I'd get over u...but I get the strangest feeling that he wants 2 do u 2"!! Who else would write lyrics like that!!

That particular performance is so potent, if I listen to it ONCE, it lingers and lingers then comes back... until I practically need an antidote so I'm not going around with this ocean of emotions between my ears.

I can see why Robert Palmer turned it down, only a guy like Prince could sing it without being too threatening.

Me too. I think it's probably the rapey part, but I could see Robert Palmer performing it with his glamor girl dancers and band.

It's a bouncy little song that gets your head and makes you want to dance.

Nothing Compares To You has been haunting me since April and I only want to hear P sing it, regardless of the woman singing with him.

It's like I crave hearing him do that growl before "All the flowers..."

Sad, I know. I miss him.
