I used to play this album half to death! Love 2 the 9s was one of my favorites...me and my bff used to rap Tony and Maytes lines. I wanna Melt With U made me uncomfortable as hell (but it jams).

The whole album was the first time I seen P take rap seriously (i was younger okay, i just laughed while my mother was annoyed "Why do these pop stars5gotta ruin everything?!"

I absolutely adore And God Created Woman, The Max, (shamefully) My name is Prince. Eben though he and Tony looked a mess

PliablyPurple

Blue Light has always been my favorite from this album. The gold cased cd box, not with the purple and gold trim on the face of the disc, but a pic of P, Mayte, and NPG on it, is one of the few "collectibles" I have of Prince. I'm not a collector and mainly see those things as useless, material items that leave me feeling empty inside. I pretty much feel the same about having this razz. People are asking for way too much money for a sealed, gold box w/ purple disc, which is the more common version of the box, and I hope those turds don't get it smile.

The Morning Papers

The last 7 notes of the guitar solo are the most joyous i think i've ever heard Prince. The way he screams that last note in particular... whoa. Dude was in love. His left arm vibrato is criminally overlooked.

I haven't been listening this record for a while, but i remember that, back then, i thought 'The Continental' was superior to the rest of songs.

To choose one is just put down to a mood frame but I will say at this run
Damn U 🌹is now. Cry times over this with a pounding in my chest as I contemplate another direction alone may be the time to go it damn u. 😪one can have the song but not the music sometimes it just no longer plays the way it should. Out

I like that song and it used to be part of my jogging mix but the lyrics still rub me the wrong way to this day. "Don´t look now there´s a river of blood...you must´ve been a virgin what am I guilty of?" just doesn´t sound right to me.

Still a good song though. But the lyrics in some of the songs are questionable.

Good song,though

.

I also like the song "I Want To Melt With You" but some of the lyrics are truely icky.

.

Starting with;

.

"I got 7 hours, baby. So what ya want to do?"

.

This line is so callous and presumptuous that it makes me envision a scenario in which he is hooking up with one of his regular sex partners on a flight layover. (something that perfectly fine in my opinion)

.

Then we hear;

.

"Don't look now, but there's a river of blood
you must have been a virgin
What am I guilty of? Oh no (oh no)"

.

These lyrics turns this whole scenario which was normal and fine into something shocking seedy and gross.

.

It implies that he has never had sex with her before.

That he knew so little about her that he didn't know she was a virgin.

And that she must be pretty young, too young to have already lost her virginity.

.

Then he says something that no one should ever say to anyone when it is their first time having sex.

.

Yeah, do that baby [Repeat: x2]
Yeah, do that baby, just like a dog (ooh, I want to melt with u)
Yeah, do that baby, just like a dog (ooh, I want to melt with u)
Yeah, do that baby, just like a dog

.

Not to mention the "River of Blood" is a biblical reference.

.

Lyrically this song is a real cringer.

.

But musically it is pretty good.

.

yeahthat It was a period in which Prince definitely started copping a hiphop video attitude towards women. It seemed that before he certainly objectified women but still at times wanted them as an equal sexual partner in terms of pleasure without the hostility.

I totally agree with you, the lyrics are cringeworthy, probably a reason why since then he has never performed it again.
