I've heard every prince album but. How does it compare to exodus and new power soul?

.

I think that it is not as good as ''Exodus'', but it is way better than "New Power Soul''.

.

.

New Power Soul and Exodus could be seen as being the same band. (where imo Exodus is much better and less a "Prince" album)

.

Goldnigga, on the other hand is something completely on its own. It does not sound at all related to those two albums. I don't listen to it much, as I feel that Tony M and the faux rap stuff makes it unlistenable, but the sound of the band is not bad. Case in point, the funk version of Make Believe uses the same backing tape as Black Motherfuckers In Da House, which is an irresistible funk groove.

.

It's a nice oddity in Prince's catalog to listen to at least once. I hope the estate releases a rap free version of this album, or even instrumental..

Doubtful. And if they do, they will rename it something else.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

What do you have against it, Em? I've tried to explain what I like & dislike about this album; would be nice if you did the same.

Pretty much everything to be honest. That style of music just isn't my thing. I do like some rap, early Outkast, Common, Tribe Called Quest, but Tony M has to be one of the worst rappers I've ever heard. His voice is just so irritating. The lyrics are pretty embarrassing throughout the whole album. I actually can't think of any positives, and it's the only Prince related album I can say that about. I even prefer Kamasutra to Goldnigga, and I can't stand that album. I'm sure Goldnigga has its fans, I'm not one of them though...

And for me it's completely opposite. I love the album, especially the lyrics, the raw funkyness and I totally don't mind Tony M.
I'd rather have 1 more album in that style then all of his output between Emancipation (how I HATE that album) and 20Ten (with the exception of Crystal Ball and maybe Rainbow Children)

Favorite track on Goldnigga: Johnny. From beginning to end.

"Oilcan" is (as Arsenio might say) FUNKY LIKE DOO-DOO - and I just wish it was a longer track, a full tune rather than an under-a-minute snippet.

"Deuce and A Quarter" is also a funky track that I like. The NPG is ON-POINT throughout the album, regardless of how one feels about Tony's raps.

Track 4 - Segue.

Clocking in at 0.17 it's the shortest track on the album, so is my favourite.

I can't stand the album. It was bought towards keeping my Prince based collection complete, and it serves no other pupose to me than that. I don't like the title (how ever much the word becomes seemingly acceptable in certain parts of society), and I don't like any of the 'songs' on it, either musically or especially lyrically.

It's dreadful. Compared to this monstrosity 'Exodus' stands out as if it were Sign O The Times.
